Mother’s Day Week – Monday

 

Happy Monday! I know I haven’t posted in a while I have been busy traveling and working on great new content for Just Jodi Style. This week I wanted to focus on Mother’s Day and different ideas you can do for the female figure in your life. Today I wanted to discuss monogramming. Now in recent years it has become more of a trend to get something customized whether it be an item of clothing or even your cell phone. Anything can be customized, but monogramming is something that is as my mom would like to say “old school”. I say this because it is more expensive and takes more time than just ironing on someone’s initials to a top. However, monogramming last a lot longer than a simple ironed on insignia that you can find on Etsy. This past Thanksgiving I purchased these unreal vintage pajamas from J. Crew with their Cyber Monday deals. I found out about these pajamas when my old boss had purchased them as a bridal shower gift for one of her friends. She told me how you can get them monogramed as well on their site. If your Mom is the type of person not to wear matching sets I still believe this is the gift for you to get. It comes in three colors (White, Navy and Hydrangea) and it also comes in both short and long sleeve options. Personally I chose the long sleeve option for those cold winter nights. I will say to be careful when selecting your monogramming and what order you place your initials in. I personally called J. Crew to verify I was putting it in the correct order prior to purchasing them. Since Mother’s day is this Sunday and it takes a few weeks for these to come in if you are still interested in purchasing them for your Mom you can always print off a picture of the pajamas inside your card with a cute little saying that works for your Mom.  Hope everyone has a great day! <3

March Madness Gear

Hey guys! Today is the day the day of “The Big Dance” as my dad used to call it. I am talking about March Madness!!! Growing up I played basketball until I was 16 years old and it is my favorite sport to watch. Whether is be college or professional I enjoy watching the game, but being a girl and going to games when I was younger there was always a lack of female gear for sports teams. Thankfully in the past decade designers and teams have realized this as well and have come up with appropriate gear for all genders. I personally don’t wear items that are too girly with all the glitter and bedazzled gems I just simply dress for comfort. I am not one of those girls you see at sporting events that walk in with high heels on and look like they are going to go out to a club afterwards. I always stick to my basics. I wear a shirt that is either my teams colors or a team shirt like this University of Arizona vintage t-shirt. I then pair it with either a pair of leggings or comfortable jeans like these Frame Denim ones. Then depending on the weather and where I am that will determine my shoe choice. Since I am in New York City for tonight’s game where University of Arizona will play North Dakota I will be wearing these short brown booties from Vince Camuto that I got the year I moved to New York City. I am only wearing these booties because I don’t plan on walking very far to watch the game, but if plans change then I will opt to wear knee high boots in order to deal with the snow that is still piled up on the sidewalks right now. The knee high boots that I always love to wear are from Steve Madden. Every time I wear them I am always asked who makes them and people are shocked that they are Steve Madden. They make similar pairs still to this day, but they were a still back in 2011 for only a mere $100. Hope everyone has their brackets ready because March Madness is finally here. Splurge Worthy Wedding Clutch

Happy Thursday! Hope everyone is gearing up for the Superbowl this Sunday and has done all of the food shopping that they need. February seems to be one of the most popular months to get married. Obviously because of Valentine’s Day, but also because of President’s Day Weekend. In a few weeks I am going to be going to Arizona to watch one of my best friends from college marry the love her life and I am so excited that I will be there. I haven’t been back to Arizona since I graduated college in December 2012 so needless to say I have my list of places I want to hit before I leave. The other day I started to go through my closet to plan out my outfits for the wedding weekend. One of the first purchases I made for myself years ago was this amazing black patent bag from Louis Vuitton. It has card holders in the front of the bag as well as a zipper inside, but it also comes with detachable strap! When it comes to a wedding bag I know I have said this before, but it is 100% worth the splurge. I have worn this bag out with the strap to dinners in New York City and then as a clutch to engagement parties and weddings. It is so versatile and even though there is gold hardware on it in some lightings you can’t even tell so  you can also get away with silver jewelry as well. If you are looking for a classic wedding clutch and aren’t sure what to purchase this is perfect for you. Anything black patent is great because it is a classic look that will never go out of style. The Vintage Find

Vintage pieces in the past were hard to come by. You could spend hours exploring vintage shops around the city and while these adventures were fun it was always hit or miss.  Now we are seeing more and more of them popping up on the online market. Whether it be on Gilt, Ruelala or on Therealreal a lot of people are selling their old pieces and I love it! When buying vintage I personally prefer to see it in person. Being able to touch and feel the product helps me to see its condition. On many websites vintage items can not be returned and that can sometimes make me nervous. This vintage Chanel black beaded and pearl necklace is one I “borrowed” while raiding my mother’s closet. I saw it and instantly fell in love! When wearing vintage items that most important trick to keeping them like new is putting them away properly. Many older treasures such as this are fragile and need to be handled with care. When putting away delicate jewelry for example you should always put it in the jewelry bag and box it came in. Yes this takes up some space which in a New York apartment is limited…but if you want your pieces to last its worth it.
