2-5-18: Winter White

Happy Monday! Hope everyone is recovering from Superbowl Sunday yesterday and that amazing win by the Philadelphia Eagles. Even though my beloved Miami Dolphins weren’t there I keep telling myself that there is always next year. Last week we found out that we are going to have 6 more weeks of winter…JOY! Just because it is winter and cold out doesn’t mean you can’t wear white. There is always a way to make winter white fun! Like this bell sleeved top I got back on September from Banana Republic. It makes a simple white long sleeve top have a little bit more of an edge to it. Don’t you think? Pair it with a fun jacket to keep you warm.

Every night that I go out I ask myself the same question. Tonight do I want to be warm and comfy or do I want to look cute? Sometimes you can do both! Sadly the top that I am wearing in this picture is sold out but Banana Republic has some other great options for you to choose from.

Just remember if you don’t want to have your sleeves get bunched up when putting on your jacket you should  hold in your hand the bell sleeve in one bunch when putting on your jacket. Otherwise your sleeve will bunch up in your jacket. Trust me this has happened to me too many times that I care not to admit. Hope everyone has a great Monday! <3

Steals & Deals: Stripped off the Shoulder

Happy Friday! This weekend it is a full household in my apartment. I am watching one of my best friends puppies Stanley a cockapoo that is under 6 months old. Stella is getting adjusted to not having all of my attention, but so far so good! Once a month I get emails with additional mark downs from different retailers. The one retailer that I have found the best markdowns recently is Saks Off Fifth. One of the biggest trends of summer that I have seen so many people wear are button down shirts, but not the traditional way we are used to seeing. I found this pink button down off the shoulder top with a front tie by Romeo & Juliet for only $34.99! It is so comfortable and easy to wear despite the fact that I need to wear a strapless bra with it. I love how the sleeves are not the traditional cuffs that you see on button down shirts. I also ordered this top in black and white as well. I personally ordered a size small and I’m glad I did. Otherwise It would be too tight on me that I wouldn’t be able to lift my arms if I took it any smaller.  One thing I will say about Saks Off Fifth is they have a policy for shipping. If your item doesn’t ship within a certain time frame they will cancel your order. Even if the item is still available online they will cancel it. This happened to me with my order of these two tops, but upon calling their customer service they promptly re ordered me the items and found them the same day to ship them to me overnight for FREE!  Saks Off Fifth has recently opened up an actual store in New York City and it is AMAZING!!! If you aren’t that big into online shopping head on over to their store in Midtown right now! They have an amazing selection of low to high end designer items at a fraction of the cost. Throwback Thursday: The Denim Jacket

Happy #TBT! Everyone always says that in fashion its a cycle and that what’s old is new again. This has always been the case especially this past year. We have seen the resurgence of so many trends that I even used to wear when I was younger. Wow that makes me feel old. One of my favorite trends from middle school was the denim jacket. I still remember the first one my Mom purchased me was a dark denim jacket from Hard Tail. I wore it until it was too short on my arms for me to wear. Even though I tried to convince my parents I could wear it as a quarter sleeve jacket, but they didn’t buy it. While in college my Mom once again found me another great find this Ralph Lauren denim jacket. I totally forgot I even had it until I moved to New York City almost 4 years ago. When looking for a denim jacket I suggest looking at your wardrobe in a whole. I prefer my denim jacket plain without any patches or artwork on it. The amount of times I have thrown on my denim jacket right before I walk out the door recently is through the roof. Even when I am simply going out for a walk with my sweet puppy Stella I sometimes throw it on instead of putting on a long sleeve t-shirt. It’s hard when its early in the morning and its too hot for long sleeves but a little nippy for just a tank top. This is a happy medium!  I know a lot of people have been wearing them super oversized, but for me I prefer mine more fitted. However, if you want the oversized look make sure the arms aren’t too long that you are rolling up the sleeves to the point that it hurts your wrist. If you want a denim jacket with a little more flare you can always purchase your own patches online and put them on a solid denim jacket yourself. It will be most cost effective especially if you aren’t sure how often you are going to wear it. Sadly my denim jacket is no longer available, but if you search retailers such as Zara, GAP and even H&M you will find great ones that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

How To Add Color To Any Outfit

It’s Thursday and that means its one more day until the weekend!!! Now I have said this before, but I will say it again the majority of my closet is black with a little white and very few items of color. However, when it comes to handbags that isn’t the case. A few years ago Gilt was having a major sale exclusive for their app users for brand new Balenciaga bags! Yes you heard that right brand new Balenciaga bags not pre owned. Now it is more common for these flash sale sites to have brand new designer bags at a fraction of the cost but even two years ago that wasn’t the case.

I knew that I wanted to get a red bag to add to my collection. My Mom always told me that if I was going to buy a colored bag to make it red because her Mom always told her that it was for good luck. If you are going to get any bag for a pop color even if you don’t think it will bring you luck I suggest a red bag. My only suggestion is to make sure not to wear a bag like this when their is the potential of bad weather. The worst thing that can happen to you is if your red bag bleeds onto your clothes. That has happened to me way too a few too many times that I don’t want to admit. I think Stella agrees with me on this that this red Balenciaga purse is the way to go. Throwback Thursday – Overalls

Today I thought I would bring back an outfit that I probably wore on repeat in 4th grade any chance I could. What outfit am I talking about? Overalls! I had my favorite pair of denim overalls that I wore at least once a week to school maybe even more my entire 4th grade year. I still remember my Dad trying to get me to buy a different pair of overalls so I could switch it up and I wouldn’t budge. Finally once they got a hole in them it was time to say goodbye. Recently I have been spotting the trend everywhere from H&M all the way to Bloomingdales. One of my favorite bloggers is WeWoreWhat and when I heard she had created a line of overalls I was desperate to get my hands on a pair of them. I luckily was able to snag two pairs of her coveted Second Skin Overalls including this pair that I am wearing. These are her high waisted black skinny overalls and I am OBSESSED!!! They are so comfortable and fit so well that I don’t want to take them off. Being that I am only 5’2 1/2 (yes that 1/2 of an inch is very important) I always struggle to find things that fit me properly. I always seem to have to take any pair of jeans or jumpsuits to the tailor, but for the first time in a long time I didn’t have to. These overalls fit me perfectly without any need to take them in to a professional. I personally never realized how versatile overalls truly were until now. You can wear these overalls with sneakers, slides, flats, booties, heels or even sandals. The tricky part is finding the proper top to go underneath. For me I have worn body suits under it, off the shoulder tops, crop tops and also tight tanks that tuck in on the sides. The tank that I am wearing is a looser fitting tank from GAP and it is tight on top, but not as tight as a form fitting tank. If you are purchasing from Second Skin Overalls I suggest ordering two sizes. In one of the overalls from a previous collection I was a size XS, but for these I wore a size small. If you are concerned with the $ of these overalls I am here to tell you that it is worth every penny, but if you aren’t sure if you will wear them often check out stores like Forever 21 and H&M for less expensive options. Bachelorette Monday!

Happy Monday! Today is an exciting day because #BachelorNation is back!! Tonight begins the season of the Bachelorette and I am so excited. Crazy enough I know one of the men competing this season for Rachel’s heart and I can’t wait to see how far he goes. I haven’t spoken to him in a few years or I would ask him for some spoilers. In honor of tonight’s season premiere I want to show you one of my favorite cocktail dresses that I have worn to a ton of weddings. Now over the years the girls on this show have had some hit and misses when it comes to their rose ceremony outfits. I love when they all wear long gowns, but there is something to say about a beautiful short dress. I love that this dress is simple with black and white lace, but here’s hoping that Rachel comes out in a stunning red outfit like this one from Black Halo.

 

All I know is I can’t wait to see what Rachel is wearing on the first rose ceremony tonight, but I am also interested to see what the guys are wearing too. Tune in tonight on ABC and see for yourselves!

Fitness Tuesday – Summer Body Ready

It’s Fitness Tuesday here on Just Jodi Style and I want to discuss something that everyone knows is coming…SUMMER! With Memorial Day coming up soon everyone is a panic to get their beach bodies ready. I have noticed this personally in all of my work out classes these past two weeks. Normally the 7 am spin class I attend is 75% full, but now there is always a waitlist to get into the class. I want to stress to everyone to not overdue it just to get beach body ready. In reality that body won’t stay long if you are just trying to get an easy fix. For example I have seen a ton of people doing juice cleanses to drop a few lbs fast, but the moment you start back on solid food the weight just comes right back on. Trust me I have done 2 juice cleanses in my lifetime. Yes, I lost a great deal of weight while doing them, but the moment I started back eating normally food all the weight just came right back on. The best way to keep your body great all summer long is to be consistent. Yes this will requiring working out, but you will also need to watch what you are eating and drinking. Something that I learned helps with your metabolism is to start your mourning off with a hot cup of water with a little bit of lemon. This will help jump start your metabolism and also I have noticed that it has helped me when I feel like I may be getting sick. Another thing that helps is portion control. I know that everyone posts about their meal prep for the week, but that gets boring after a while. You want variety and there is no shame in admitting that. I personally look at my schedule for the week every Sunday night to determine my meals for the week before hitting the grocery store Monday morning. I do this because Monday SoulCycle classes open up for the next week and that way I can also plan my meals around my workouts as well. It’s a win win situation you plan your week of fitness ahead of time and what you will eat. Now I don’t plan specifically what day I will be eating certain meals, but I plan out how many meals I will eat at home and enough options for all of those days. One Year Of Just Jodi Style

Happy Tuesday! Normally today I would focus on fitness Tuesday, but today is a very special day to me. A year ago today I officially launched Just Jodi Style into the world and my what a year it has been. I personally just want to thank my family and friends for all of your love and support through this past year. I don’t know what I would have done without all of you by my side. I hope all of you have enjoyed what I have posted this past year and will continue on this amazing journey with me. Today I am spending the day cuddling up with my sweet puppy Stella in our pajamas trying to stay warm from this lovely snow storm we are having here in New York City. Yes I know the snowstorm is also named Stella just like my puppy. I didn’t know the name of the storm until my brother informed me yesterday afternoon and I didn’t believe him until he sent me a weather report link showing me. Hope everyone has a great day and for the rest of us in New York stay warm and only go outside if it is an absolute emergency. <3
