Fitness Tuesday – Simply Fit Board

January 31, 2017

Happy Fitness Tuesday! Since the shows inception I have been hooked on Shark Tank. One of my teachers from graduate school was an advisor to Daymond John for the show. Fun fact for everyone just because someone agrees to a deal on the show doesn’t mean the deal actually goes through after taping has finished. That is why when you see some of the updates you don’t always see a lot of your favorite deals. Anyways I always am interested with all the different fitness items that come on the show and if that actually do work. I recently purchased the Simply Fit Board which Lori Greiner said was a hero product. I thought if the creatures of this product which are a mother and daughter and if I am not mistaken the mother is in her 70’s could do it then why couldn’t I? Let me just tell you it is harder than it looks. I also didn’t know that there were more things to do on the board than just the simple twist. For the first few days I just did the simple twist for about 20 minutes at a time and honestly I could feel it working. I tried both on my wood floors and on my carpet and it was easier to do it on the carpet. I also tried it wearing sneakers and socks and then no socks. If you can do it with sneakers it is much better for you, but without socks is okay too. If you do it with socks good luck not slipping off the board. I personally ordered mine from Amazon, but they are stocked also in Bed Bath and Beyond across the country. I think that if you do not have the time to go to the gym that this is the product for you. I’m not saying that it will give you six pack abs, but it will help you with the dreaded muffin top that everyone tries to avoid. This is the final Tuesday of January 2017 so let’s make it a good one!

SAG Awards 2017 – My Top 3 Fav Looks From Last Night

January 30, 2017

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend and are having a relaxing Monday so far. Last night award season continued with the SAG Awards and let me tell you there was some hit and misses with the fashion. Some of the looks that didn’t bother me so much, but according to the fashion police they were not great.

Emma Stone once again killed it on the red carpet. Wearing Alexander McQueen she looked like the movie star that she is. At first look I wasn’t sure how I felt about it being sheer with the lace detailing, but upon closer look at the dress it was perfect. Her acceptance speech was a great reunion of Superbad don’t know if anyone else caught that. I can’t wait to see what she wears to the Oscars because I know she is going to look amazing again.

Kerry Washington in my book can do no wrong. Even last year with her crop to while pregnant honestly I said to my mom on the phone that she can make even pregnancy look fabulous. She stunned in this Roberto Cavalli dress and it had me thinking Olivia Pope with the white hat killing it. I know that everyone said it looked too much like a wedding gown, but some of the best looks on red carpets were initially intended to be wedding gowns. I honestly can’t wait for the rest of this season of Scandal not just to see what happens, but also to see all of her fashion.

I am a huge Game of Thrones fan. I personally binged watched the first 3 seasons on my own when I first moved to New York. I will say this to all of you because I wish someone said it to me. DO NOT WATCH THE RED WEDDING ALONE AT NIGHT TIME! Anyways Sophie Turner who plays Sansa and also is rumored to be dating Joe Jonas stunned in a custom Louis Vuitton dress. It reminded of Jennifer Lawrence years ago in her red number during award season. She looked elegant and really stood out from the crowd.

Do you all agree with my top 3 favorite looks from last night? Comment below and let me know who your favorite looks were. Look forward to reading them <3

Steals & Deals – Pridebites Pt.2

January 27, 2017

Happy Friday! For today’s Steals & Deals I wanted to show you something that I have mentioned before, but it’s worth mentioning again. Since getting a dog I can not tell you how hard it has been to find sweaters, beds, blankets and anything you can think of that I truly loved. I have found few things that I have liked from Petco and Petsmart, but there was always something about the items I purchased that just didn’t foot the bill. Pridebites which was actually co created by one of my brothers best friends and was also featured on Sharktank is the place to go. My dog Stella is always decked out in Pridebites gear and she knows that the items are hers. They have everything from dog toys to puffy jackets for your dog this winter. You can also customize everything on their website. I personally have a frisbee dog toy with Stella’s face on it and it is the cutest thing that I have ever purchased not just for her but for myself. If you go to their website now and make a purchase before checking out enter in the code Stellabear for a 20% off discount to your entire purchase. I have suggested this website to over a dozen people now and they all are just as much in love with Pridebites as I am. One person even emailed me saying that her toy poodle who never would wear sweaters in the winter because she hated every single one now refuses to take off her Pridebites sweater when she gets home from her walks. Another happy pup! Don’t forget to use the code Stellabear <3 If you don’t follow already please follow stella on instagram @HowStellaGotHerWoofBack

The Quilted Handbag

January 26, 2017

Happy Thursday! Back in college the one thing that every girl wanted a Chanel quilted bag, but my mom wasn’t going to send me to college with such an expensive bag that I would potentially ruin on a night out. Instead she found something that had the same look, but more than half the cost. This Rebecca Minkoff quilted affair bag is one of my go to bags on days when it is so gross outside especially in New York City now with all of this rain that we have been having. This specific version is no longer sold in stores anymore, however they do have a smaller version on the Bloomingdales website. I have personally worn my bag during some major snow storms and some pretty terrible rain and it has held up through it all. If you are looking for a great going out bag that has the look of a classic Chanel bag Rebecca Minkoff is the place to go. All of their bags are so classic and are amazing quality. I have truly seen a great change in her designs and work in the past 5 years and I am an avid customer. When I couldn’t find this bag back in college my mom was able to find it thanks to Zappos. If you are having trouble finding any bag that seems to be sold out everywhere online check Zappos website. More than likely they have the bag or at least that is what has happened to me in the past. I paired my bag with a simple pair of black jeans and a chambray top with black loafers for an easy casual going out look. You can also pair this bag with great booties and a dress or even heels for a night out on the town. Check out Rebecca Minkoff’s website for some of their amazing bags! <3

Hump Day Treat: Salmon Patties

January 25, 2017

It’s Wednesday and you all know what that means it’s time for a hump day treat recipe. One of my favorite childhood memories of my Grandparent’s is how my Grandma would always make us lunch whenever my brother and I went over to my Grandparent’s apartment. Now since my grandparents kept kosher inside their home there was certain things that we weren’t allowed to eat while we were there because of it. She figured out quickly something that was easy to make for her and something that all the grandchildren would eat. Mac n Cheese with Salmon Patties! They were really salmon burgers but she liked calling them patties for us. So now she would make us the standard kraft macaroni and cheese from the box which we all know is a classic. Today I personally love to make the Cracker Barrel white cheddar mac n cheese. If you haven’t tried it already you need to do it right away! Now for the salmon burgers here is what you will need if you are cooking for yourself:

Ingredients:

1 can of pink boneless skinless salmon

Bread crumbs (I use the Italian ones)

2 eggs

Vegetable oil

Plastic gloves

Directions:

1.Put on the plastic gloves. Open the can of salmon and drain out the liquid. In a mixing bowl place the salmon that you have removed and drained from the can. Using your hands that have gloves on them mix it so it’s in small pieces.

2.Crack two eggs over the salmon. Now mix it all together with your hands so that the egg is all mixed in with the salmon.

3.After you have mixed the egg in pour a little bit of Italian bread crumbs in the bowl. My brother Ira always says more bread crumbs, but you don’t want it to be too much so that the patties are now dry. I always say add a ¼ of a cup at a time. When the salmon has a good consistency where it’s still a little sticky enough to make burgers then you have added enough.

4.In a frying pan heat up the vegetable oil. Once it is heated up place the salmon burgers in the pan. Once you see that the patties are getting brown on one side flip them over so the other side gets golden. Do that about 4 times so each side cooks 3 times on each side.
Hope you all enjoys today’s recipe and are having a great day! <3

Fitness Tuesday – Stairs or Stairmaster?

January 24, 2017

Happy Fitness Tuesday everyone! Since I started working out years ago especially these past 7 ½ months when I have been working out more than I ever have in my life one of the machines I rarely used in the gym was the stairmaster. My mom always told me she was taking the stairs at her office building just like Cary Grant :-). If you don’t know who that is please google him right now! Anyways so I thought I’d do my own experiment deciding between the actual stairs vs the stairmaster. I did the stairmaster twice a week for 2 weeks for about 20 minutes or and then after that I took one week off then for 2 weeks I used the actual stairs twice a week for about 20 minutes as well. While on the stairmaster it was helpful that there was a tv in front of me, but I noticed that I was actually climbing more flights of stairs then I realized. On a stairmaster the stairs are all pretty average height and distance from each other vs say my buildings stairs where they are a bit larger than normal. When I took the stairs in my building (Don’t worry I didn’t too many) I felt more out of breathe and just overall more exhausted after doing them. I also didn’t do as many as I did when I was in the gym, but I did notice a change in my legs and other places more so after I was using the actual stairs vs when I was using the stairmaster. I also noticed that I was more concerned about my form while using the actual stairs vs when I was on the stairmaster. After doing all of this I decided that I prefer doing the actual stairs even if I wasn’t doing as my flights of stairs in my actual stairwell to my building I just feel like I am getting a better work out by doing that vs the stairmaster. Have any of you noticed this as well? Comment in the comments section below and let me know!

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Tribal Sweater

January 23, 2017

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend and is having a great day so far. This winter I have seen a lot of different trends when it came to sweater patterns, but the one that I am currently loving is the tribal patterns. I got this amazing cashmere sweater from 360cashmere from the Rocky Barnes collection. It is currently no longer available however, there are still some amazing pieces left from the Rocky Barnes collaboration. When looking for a tribal sweater I suggest to try and go with max 3 colors for the pattern part as this sweater is black, white, beige and the actual sweater is grey. The point of tribal patterns is its suppose to be different, but you don’t want it to be too busy that it is almost distracting. Personally all my closet is either black, white or neutral colors this worked perfectly with my wardrobe. This is also why I loved this tribal sweater. If I had purchased one that was colors that I normally wouldn’t wear and too many of them I know that I would probably wear it once then it would sit in the back of my closet the rest of the season. If you aren’t sure if this trend is for you I suggest going to some of the fast fashion retailers and testing out the waters on what you like and don’t like. Check out 360cashmere’s website now for some great items that they just added to their sale lounge. If you use the code take40 you receive an additional 40% off the sale lounge items! Now if that isn’t a great savings I don’t know what is! Happy Shopping <3

Steals & Deals – Dangle Earrings

January 20, 2017

Happy Friday everyone! On a day like today the best way to get through it is fashion. One of the biggest trends that I have seen all over the runways are statement earrings, but especially ones that are either gem stoned or large in size. Personally I am always scared of having a heavy earring in my ear thinking that it will rip my hole. Trust me I have seen it happen to a few people and it is not pretty. I found these gem dangle earrings from Baublebar and I am obsessed with them! They are only $36 and come in 4 different colors. I think these are the perfect earrings to wear to the office when you want to spice up your outfit or when you are going out for a night on the town with your girlfriends. These earrings are super lightweight and like I said before I do not think these earrings will weight your ears down. I love Baublebar for many reasons, but the main reason is they have great affordable jewelry that cover all the latest trends. If you don’t believe me check out their website now to see a variety of earrings, necklaces, bracelets and even rings that are all so cute and affordable. Hope everyone has a great rest of their Friday <3

Fitness Tuesday – The Perfect Sock

January 17, 2017

Happy Fitness Tuesday everyone! Now I love my KB socks from Costco more than the next person, but when it came to working out I realized that I needed to get a more supportive sock. I tried at first to double up my KB socks because I am going to be honest I didn’t want to have to buy all new socks. However, when I ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon back in the spring of 2014 I was told by multiple people who ran a lot and also worked out way more than I have ever still to this day recommended that I get something different. Now some socks I have learned even though they say prevent blisters doesn’t mean you still won’t get one. If you get a sock and you hate it don’t write off the company automatically. For example I am obsessed with are the Fitsok CF2 cushion low cut sock and I swear to you it is honestly the greatest pair of socks I have ever owned. Now I have tried other types of socks from the same company and I wasn’t that thrilled with them when it came to working out. This style of Fitsoks are not too thick that your shoes then stretch out, but aren’t too thin that you get blisters every time you work out and wear them. I bought my first pair of these back when I ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon and personally now my entire sock drawer is only them. They are also great for during the winter when you are walking around in those winter booties and want a thicker sock and also want to prevent potential blisters. These are truly my go to all year round socks for any activity.  I will say that I still do have some of my KB socks left that I just wear around my apartment from time to time, but only for when I am at home. They sell the Fitsoks on Amazon in a 3 pack and you can also find them at your local running stores. Hope everyone has a great rest of their Tuesday! <3
