Memorial Day Outfit Prep #2

Happy Thursday! If you are lucky enough some of you got off early today and are already on your holiday vacation. For those of you lucky few that are able to get away this Memorial Day Weekend I know that last week I discussed how I was getting my outfits ready for Memorial Day and I am here to bring you another perfect outfit for the weekend. I always try and pack two bags for the weekend. One small going out bag and one everyday bag that can fit everything that I need. A cute drawstring bag is the way to go this holiday weekend. I have always found that drawstring bags are great for traveling because you can fit way more inside of them than you think. I once fit inside this Louis Vuitton bag my wallet, a small make up case, cell phone, keys, headphones, mini IPad, digital camera, sunglass case, glasses case, hairbrush and an external battery charger with also a regular charger cord too. Now that is a lot of stuff to fit into one bag. There is not a long weekend that I don’t pack with me a great pant romper. Since I am only 5’2 1/2 (yes that 1/2 is very important to us short girls) I have noticed that pant rompers have always made me look taller than I actually am. Pair it with a great pair of tan wedges and you can wear those shoes all weekend long. These Christian Louboutin wedges are my go to during the summer especially when I am going away. They go with pretty much everything!  My rule of thumb when packing for and preparing for a holiday weekend is to try and be like Kate Middleton. She is the queen of recycling outfits especially on her royal trips so why can’t we do the same?  Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend if you are going out of town. Be safe and wear lots of sunscreen. The last thing you want is to come back to work Tuesday with the worst sunburn <3

Steals & Deals: Zara Mid Season Sale

Happy Friday! I was up late last night watching the Arizona Wildcats beat North Dakota to advance in the March Madness tournament. I recently purchased an amazing pair of jeans from Zara, but not having purchased their jeans before I ordered two sizes. I went into the store today to return the pair that didn’t fit and walked into a big surprise. Right now at Zara is their mid season sale! Now Zara is already a great fast fashion brand because they are in my opinion great quality clothing for the price, but with the sale some of their best items are so inexpensive it’s like they are giving it away. If you can’t get to a Zara store I suggest you head online right now before some of your favorite items are gone. Some of my favorite going out tops this fall / winter were from Zara and for us living in the northeast it clearly still is winter here even though it is March…. Head on over now and check it out! Valentine’s Day Date Night Look

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I know normally it is Fitness Tuesday here on Just Jodi Style, but today I will be making an exception. With tonight being Valentine’s Day I know some of you will probably wait until the weekend to celebrate with work and everything, but for those of you who are going out tonight I wanted to share with you my perfect Valentine’s date night look. I know that everyone feels like they need to wear something red or pink or colorful because it’s a holiday. I am here to tell you that you don’t need to do that. I always wear something that I feel the most comfortable in and what makes me feel sexy. This look is a simple grey top i purchased from Vince back in college and is flowy which is great especially if you are going somewhere that is a pre fix menu with multiple courses so your stomach can breathe :-). I spiced up the outfit with a sparkly shoe and earring just to give it a little something. For those of us living in the cold weather just throw on a great coat that has a little faux or real fur to keep you warm through the night. This jacket from Annabelle New  York is quickly becoming one of my favorites this season. You don’t need much when you are going out with someone or people that you love. The most important thing is to make sure that you feel good about yourself and what you are wearing. I hope everyone has a great holiday today and for those of you who don’t have a special someone it is okay! I personally treated myself and saw 50 Shades Darker at Ipic and had a few glasses of wine and there is nothing wrong with that <3.

Steals & Deals – Faux Suede Bodysuit

Happy Friday!!! Today is the last Friday before Christmas and Channukah and I hope everyone has found their perfect gifts for the special people in their lives. If you are still looking for a great outfit to wear for the upcoming holiday parties and for New Years Eve look no further than this Steals & Deals. As you all already can guess from previous posts I love bodysuits. They are so easy to wear and just make an outfit simple and easy. I found this amazing faux suede bodysuit from Charlotte Russe and it is only $15!!! They used to have it in this light purple grey color like the one I am wearing, but now they only have it in a burgundy color. I am very tempted to buy it in this color as well because it just fits so well! The burgundy is also a great color for holiday time because it isn’t a true red, but still festive. This bodysuit is great to pair with a pair of mid rise or high waisted jeans with or without a belt or you can even pair it with a skirt. I hate having to tuck in a shirt when I wear pants, shorts or a skirt because it always seems to bunch up around my waist and just not lay correctly. This bodysuit fits like a glove! If you are concerned about how low cut it is and not revealing too much my suggestion is to use fashion tape. When I wore this out the first time I used fashion tape. Since the straps aren’t adjustable and I did not have time to go and get it altered I used fashion tape by the chest area and it worked perfectly! The top did not move out of place the entire evening that I wore it. Most pharmacy in the beauty section carry fashion tape, but if you can’t find it they also have it on Amazon Prime. Pair it with a simple necklace like the one I have on and you are all set. Hope everyone who is traveling this holiday weekend travels safe and gets everything that they want and more. <3

Steals & Deals – The Choker Necklace

Happy Friday! With Christmas and Channukah starting next week everyone is going crazy to find last minute gifts and I am here to show you something that could help you with at least one person on your list. This season the hottest trend was the choker necklace. We saw every model sporting this trend in all different styles, but a lot of the time these chokers were super expensive. For me I knew that I wouldn’t wear a choker necklace everyday, but I wanted the option to wear it when the occasion suited it. I wanted one that was adjustable as I have a very small neck a lot of the original chokers I liked a lot were too big and looked more like a necklace that just was sitting higher on my collar bone than others. I also wanted an adjustable one because sometimes with chokers even though they look proper you may feel like you are actually being choked by them and you do not want that feeling when you are wearing something for multiple hours. After much searching I found this amazing black velvet choker at Urban Outfitters and it comes in two colors black and maroon. Right now if you buy them separate they are $14 but if you buy both of them it’s only $20! I personally have both colors and they are so easy to wear and fit most neck sizes. Urban Outfitters have a ton of options if you go to their website and a lot of them are having the same deal where you can buy 2 for $20! Now who doesn’t want chokers in multiple colors? Hump Day Treat – Father Christmas Hats

 

Happy Wednesday! It’s time for another hump day treat recipe here on Just Jodi Style and today’s theme is Christmas. I personally don’t celebrate the holiday, but I do love all of the delicious treats that come along with it. This recipe I found from Tastemade and they look absolutely adorable! Check out the recipe here below.

Ingredients:

  • 24 strawberries
  • For the cake
  • 200g unsalted butter, softened
  • 25g vegetable oil
  • 260g caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 300g plain flour
  • 1 ½ baking powder
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • ⅓ cup whole milk
  • For the frosting
  • 125g unsalted butter
  • 200g icing sugar
  • 100g cream cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 356 degrees .
  2. Cream together the butter, oil and sugar until pale.
  3. Add in the eggs one at a time, mixing well between each one. Turn the whisk right down, if using an electric one, and add in the milk.
  4. Sift in the dry ingredients and fold through the mix.
  5. Grease the mini cupcake tray, and place a teaspoon amount of the mix into each of the cake holes.
  6. Place in the hot oven for around 12 minutes until fluffy and cooked through. The way to check if they are cooked all the way through is to poke the cupcakes with a toothpick. If the toothpick comes out clean then it is cooked!
  7. While the cupcakes are baking, make the frosting.
  8. Whisk the butter with an electric whisk until very pale. Then on a low speed, whisk in the icing sugar and once combined, whisk in the cream cheese till just mixed. Place in a piping bag with a round hole nozzle attached or simple cut off the end of the piping bag.
  9. Once the cakes are out and cooled, pipe a spiral shape on the top of the cakes. Start from the outside and slowly work your way into the centre.
  10. Trim the top of the strawberry and place on top. Finish with a blob of frosting on the top.

Fitness Tuesday – Stress Unloading Apps

Happy Fitness Tuesday! With the holiday season upon us we all know that this is the most stressful time of the year. Whether it be you are stressed at work and trying to get all your projects done before the end of the year or stressed out in your personal life we all have our moments. According to Self Magazine there are a few apps out there that are supposed to relieve you from some of your daily stresses. I tested some of them out myself and here is what I found. The first app is called “OMG I Can Meditate!” and its free on IOS or Android. Essentially you are moving your finger across the screen with a black blob and when you lose focus then it alerts you that you have lost focus. For me this was relaxing for a little while until my thumb started to hurt, but some doctors would say that the pain in my thumb  is from all the typing and texting that I do. If you are one of those workaholics you need to try the “Totally Tabata” app that is free as well for IOS or Androids. This helps you sneak in a quick workout while you are in at work and it’s interval training which is also good for your body because you don’t want to A put too much stress on it when you don’t work out often and B it is good to do something different in each work out. The final suggestion that I believe works wonders is mindless gaming. I know that sometimes people who do this can get heavily addicted and forget where they are, but if you have maybe one to two games on your phone and you set a stopwatch to play for say an hour a day it really helps you just clear your mind of everything else around you and destress. I never understood this before until recently and now even on the days that I am not working I do it to just clear my head. I also tried it with putting my phone on airplane mode, but some of the games require internet access so if it does put your phone on sleep mode so you can fully engross in the game that you are playing. Hump Day Treat! Thanksgiving!

It’s Wednesday so you know what that means? Hump Day Treat! Today since it is the day before thanksgiving I wanted to share some of cute ideas for kid friendly themed thanksgiving treats. Thanks to the facebook page Tastemade I found this adorable video that gives you some great ideas for kids.

 

Acorn Kisses

Ingredients:

Mini Chocolate Chip

Hershey Kisses

Mini Vanilla Wafers

Directions:

1.Melt a small amount of chocolate chips

2.Use some melted chocolate chips and put a dab on side of the wafer and press a mini chocolate chip on it

3.Use some chocolate frosting and put a dab on the opposite side of the wafer and stick the hershey kiss on it

4.ENJOY!

Pilgrim Hats

Ingredients:

Fudge stripe cookies

Mini reese’s cups

Melted white chocolate chips

Orange food coloring

Directions:

1.Melt some white chocolate chips and add a few drops of orange food coloring in it

2.Place the fudge stripe cookie with the fudge facing upward then place the reeses peanut butter cup upside down to cover the hole from the cookie

3.Then take the orange melted chocolate and pipe around the reese’s cup in order to seal it to the cookie and add a little decoration for the hat

4.ENJOY!

Fitness Tuesday – Pre Thanksgiving Work Out

Happy Fitness Tuesday everyone! I am running around crazy right now because I am heading back to Florida today with my sweet puppy Stella and I’m super excited to get to some warm weather ASAP! So as many of you are already preparing yourselves for eating way too much food on Thursday there are some workouts that can help you prepare for the feast I am sure all of you are about to have. One of the things that I do on every flight I have is stretch. Whether it be twisting my back or if you are sitting in the bulkhead sit I always stretch my legs out. I am also one of those people that stretches my quads while I am waiting for the restroom. The worst thing you can do especially on a plane is just not move at all. Prior to your meal this week I suggest that if you are somewhere that is warm take a nice walk. I am most definitely taking Stella on a nice walk around my neighborhood because first off it’s warm outside and if you can get a nice tan while you are walking why not and also its an easy way to burn some calories before you consume them all at your Thanksgiving meal. Also a lot of cities have Turkey Trots which is usually a 5k the day of Turkey day. Now if you are like me and don’t want to leave your mom or dad home cooking by themselves then the walk around the block is a great way to get some work out in before your meal. I hope everyone who is traveling today travels safe and stays warm if you are staying in the cold. Hopefully I come back from Miami with a nice tan 🙂 <3
