Happy Monday! It being the start of the week I wanted to throw it back today to a trend that we all know too well. When I was 13 the purse that everyone in my grade had was a wristlet. It wasn’t too big and it was just big enough that whenever any of my friends and I were going to a party we were able to fit our lip glosses and cellphones inside. Now the wristlet is back in style and a lot of different designers are bringing back this trend, but putting their own spin on it. Now back in the day the wristlets I always saw were just a smaller version of a purse and not really structured or anything of that sort. This Louis Vuitton wristlet is now my go to bag when I am not in the mood to carry a purse on my shoulder. Surprisingly I am able to fit a lot into this bag with it still laying seemingly flat. Inside there is even a divider and slots in the back to put your credit cards in. For me that was a major selling point because it is hard enough to fit all of your must haves into a smaller bag, but when a bag makes it easier for you to carry all the things you want and more that is huge. My suggestion if you are looking for a wristlet is buy one that is neutral in colors. This Louis Vuitton one I can wear with almost everything and if it came in black I would probably buy it as well. Also as i just previously said that the major selling point for this bag for me was the card slots is to make sure that you can fit your 3 major necessities when you go out. Those three things are your cell phone, wallet and your keys. I personally have a Iphone 6s Plus and finding a bag that fits that big phone is hard to find, but this one does it easily. I hope everyone loved today’s post and are now going to go out and buy a wristlet 🙂

White Jeans After Labor Day

September 13, 2016

160731-asharris-just_jodi-6334-look2

Labor day weekend has passed which truly means it is end of the summer season. I know what everyone is thinking “that was my last chance to wear white pants!!” But don’t get ahead of yourself there! I think you can wear white all year round as long as you wear the right style of pants. For example, these amazing white cropped jeans from Frame Denim were my white jeans of summer. They are great to wear with sandals, sneakers and even heels. They are the perfect length for someone who is short like me.I have found that sometimes other cropped jeans make me look shorter than I already am. A washing tip for white jeans:  if you are going to wash them yourself,  you should always wash them alone in cold water and use oxi clean pods instead of regular detergent. I have noticed that when I  wash my jeans, even after wearing them a few times before, they  look almost brand new with these oxi clean pods. Another suggestion I have is if you are wearing a dark colored shirt with your white jeans make sure that it isn’t a brand new shirt. I am a prime example of wearing a  new navy shirt with white jeans and having the color from the shirt come off on the white jeans. The amount of times I have done that in my lifetime is embarrassing, but I have finally learned my lesson. So make sure that no matter how badly you want to wear a new shirt if it hasn’t been washed, then wearing it with white jeans or pants is not a good option! If you so happen to get it on your pants another trick to get it off, other than the oxi clean pods, is to soak your item in cold salt water. You can also do this with color items to help get out some of the dye from your clothes that won’t come out in general washing. Clothes sometimes, no matter how much you wash them,  some dye still comes out, but don’t’ over wash the item because you don’t want it to lose its coloring all together.

Boots with the Fur: High Top Sneakers

May 23, 2016

160320-ASHarris-Jodi_Style-8193-LOOK5

It may be almost June on the calendar, but in NYC it doesn’t feel that way. A lot of New Yorkers switch over their closets from season to season and for me I have not done that just yet. There have been days this past week where I still wore some of my cashmere sweaters to work. One of my favorite pairs of sneakers to wear during winter and during these in between months before summer are these Vince black leather and fur sneakers. Now I am one of those people that felt because I am barely 5 ‘ 2 that high top sneakers aren’t appropriate on me. These are amazing because when you fold them down they are lined just on the top inside with fur. They are the comfiest shoes. Since I purchased them, they have since come out in a variety of colors and different variations of fur. This is a fun alternative instead of continuing to wear your booties that you wore all fall long. Since I am a true Florida girl, even though it’s in the 60’s outside I still feel like it is cold, but others may disagree with me.  If you are looking for high top sneakers, but don’t want ones with fur or an expensive pair, check out all the major retail stores this holiday weekend. There are going to be a lot of sales on a lot of things and this is the time to buy them. Even if you find a pair like mine that may come off as a little wintery I would still buy them and put them away for next season. These are also great shoes to wear when you are going out to a bar and don’t care about anyone stepping on your feet ☺ . Hope you all enjoyed my post today and are now inspired to buy your own pair of high top sneakers or as the famous song says “Boots with the fur..With the Fur!”

Plaid Look Done Right!

April 5, 2016

160320-ASHarris-Jodi_Style-8152-LOOK5

Everyone I know has a plaid shirt in their closet that every fall / winter they wear as soon as the temperature drops. I was always skeptical of getting a plaid shirt that didn’t consist of neutral colors like black and white, but this year I was determined to find one that I loved. I kept on lusting over the Rails plaid shirts in every store I walked into, but I couldn’t bring myself to spend a great deal of money on a shirt that I wasn’t sure how many time I would wear it, but then I found it. I found this red, black and white plaid shirt  at Zara and I have worn all season long! The reason why I was really drawn to this shirt was because not only did it look like the Rails shirts I was lusting over, but it one of the softest shirts I have ever owned!  The other great part of this shirt is that if you wanted to roll up the sleeves and not have them fall down there is a clasp on the inside of the sleeves for you to do that. This shirt is a great top not only for those nights that the temperature drops, but it is also  very stylish and doesn’t make you feel like you are underdressed. When wearing a plaid shirt there is no need to wear any other patterns, the plaid is enough. Try to keep the rest of the outfit simple,  I paired it with a pair of simple black jeans. If you are still looking for a great plaid shirt I would check out Zara, H &M, and Bloomingdales. They are currently having “friends and family” sales and this is the time all of the winter themed items, such as plaid shirts, will be put on sale. Go get your favorite plaid now!

The Perfect Jacket + Vest Combo

April 4, 2016

160320-ASHarris-Jodi_Style-8239-LOOK6

Despite the weather changes in NYC there are still many days that we need to wear a jacket. This beautiful Laveer jacket I was gifted to by a friend and it is probably the most amazing jacket I have ever worn. It has a shearling vest attached to the jacket on the inside which adds a whole other aspect to it. Something that I have learned by seeing other style editors during fashion week, is that a jacket doesn’t need to always be worn like a proper jacket. The great thing about having the vest attached to the jacket is you can wear the vest and then just have the jacket lay on your shoulders.  I  am wearing a long sleeve white t-shirt underneath for several reason. I feel if you aren’t going to wear the jacket fully on your body and just let it lay on your shoulders you should wear a long sleeve and not a t-shirt or a tank top underneath because: A. you are going to be cold and B. it just doesn’t look right if you are walking down the street and you are wearing a coat with a tank top underneath. If you don’t want to purchase a jacket that has a vest attached to it I suggest you find a vest that you really like and take it to your local tailor. The jacket stays on my shoulders because the vest is attached, but if you don’t want to permanently change your jacket you can ask your tailor to add buttons on the inside in order to attach the vest whenever you want to change up your look.  If you love Laveer jackets and don’t want to spend a fortune on them check online right now. This is the best time to buy a lot of your winter jackets especially since winter is technically over, but the weather isn’t telling us that. I hope you like today’s post and now can pull of this look yourself 🙂

Hair Color Anonymous

March 22, 2016

160228-ASHarris-Jodi_Style-5024-LOOK2

Here is a little secret about me: I am a natural brunette, not just any brunette, but a dark haired brunette. Now that is something that surprises most people after meeting me because the majority of my life I have had some sort of blonde coloring in it, but to their disbelief I am a natural dark haired brunette. I have done every color you can think of…blonde highlights, all over brown, honey brown, ombre, platinum blonde, honey blonde, and even grey. Yes I did try the grey trend on my hair for one month, but for anyone wanting to try this it does not stay in your hair very long even when using purple hair shampoo. Purple hair shampoo is what I was told to use to keep the grey in longer, but it faded very quickly. Despite trying various colors, , I always seem to go back to the ombre hair color. The benefit of the ombre is that since my hair is so dark naturally even when it grows out you can’t really tell, it still looks great.. hen I had all the blonde highlights or even the platinum blonde I would have to get my hair colored more often because my roots would show, but with ombre they don’t so the upkeep is easier and cheaper. When picking a new hair color it’s always best to trust your colorist. Regardless if I may say I want my hair to get this blonde or this color my colorist always tells me what is realistic and what will not kill my hair. Yes, hair always grows back, but as you get older your hair changes and the last thing you want to do is ruin your hair. Take care of it. My biggest suggestion if you get your hair colored as often as I do (I go every 8 weeks) is to ask for a conditioning treatment before you leave the hair salon.

Faux Fur Vest

March 21, 2016

160228-ASHarris-Jodi_Style-4995-LOOK2

Although my calendar says it is already spring, , NYC is telling me otherwise! . When going out it’s hard to stay warm and cute at the same time, but if you are looking for a great piece to add into your wardrobe you may want to consider  a black faux fur vest. I found my faux fur vest at Bloomingdales in the Aqua section years ago in Miami and I finally have a reason to wear it. It originally had a zipper on it, but I had my tailor take it out because I knew I would never zip it up. That is another trick I have learned over the years. If you find a vest that you love but don’t love a small detail on it then take it to your local tailor and see how much it will be to fix it. It was very inexpensive for my tailor to take out the zipper so it was well worth. There are different versions of the faux fur vest that come out each season, but when looking for one it’s best to find one with a silk lining as this makes the vest look more expensive than it truly is. I have had my faux fur vest mistaken for real fur multiple times! When pairing a top underneath your vest it’s best to stick with a solid long sleeve shirt or sweater. You do not want anything taking away from your faux fur piece by wearing a bright colored shirt underneath. A black faux fur vest will never go out of style from season to season. The best part of this faux fur vest that I didn’t’ discover until I was purchasing it, was that it had pockets! Pockets in a vest are hard to come by especially in a faux fur vest, so if you find one don’t let it slip through your fingers ☺

The Over the Knee Boot

March 17, 2016

160228-ASHarris-Jodi_Style-5007-LOOK2

Today I want to share with you a purchase that I hold near and dear to my heart… MY Stuart Weitzman 50/50 Knee High Boots! I purchased these boots in the Spring of 2012 and haven’t looked back. At first I wasn’t convinced that they were going to be around for more than a season, they were different from the leather boots I had purchased in the past and I wasn’t sure if they were going to be just a fad. They are so NOT a fad! These boots have not only stayed in style but they have also walked me through four years of city streets and endless adventures. The only thing that I have had to get done to them was to get the heels replaced and that was only this year.  4 years and they stayed perfect! I wear these regularly during winter and can’t not express how great they are. I like the version that has a little bit of a heel to them because I find them to be more comfortable than flat boots for those of us who do a lot of city walking. If you are looking for a great over-the-knee boot these are worth every single penny. When wearing them I suggest tucking your pants into the top of your socks so that they don’t bunch up as you pull the boots on… they are tight on the calves and it is easy to see if your pants get scrunched.

The Shearling Coat

March 15, 2016

160228-ASHarris-Jodi_Style-5166-LOOK5
Since last year I have been searching for a shearling coat. I have searched and searched and couldn’t find one that I loved. Sometimes I purchase my winter items towards the end of one season when they go on sale to have them for the following year. If you are like me and go to Florida always check out the winter section during the fall. Since no one in Florida is buying winter items they always go on sale there first. This amazing Vince shearling jacket I found online at Last Call by Neiman Marcus for a ¼ of the price! It was sold out everywhere and when I ordered it I crossed my fingers waiting for that email saying that it had shipped. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about the color when I bought it since most of my closet consists of neutral colors, however it is stunning in person. If you are like me and don’t buy much color start off with earth tones like this Hunter green color and ease your way towards other colors. This is my go to jacket when it’s a little cold out, but not cold enough for my heavy down jacket.
