Memorial Day Outfit Prep

Happy Thursday! Today I got my hair colored and went from red back to having my blonde ombre just in time for summer. With Memorial Day being next weekend I am getting all of my outfits ready for the big weekend. There are some essential items that you will need for the holiday weekend whether you are going away or staying in town. Here are some of the things you should make sure you have: a great pair of white jeans, a cold shoulder top with a great strapless bra, a small clutch and a great pair of sandals. If you don’t have any of these items I would go out and get them ASAP! I say this out of love because I know what it feels like not to have these clutch items. I went shopping in a panic out in New York City and yes New York one of the fashion capitals of the world has everything however when it comes to major holidays. You will notice that when summer comes along right before the actual weekend these items like white jeans sell out in mostly every single size. These are staple items that you will not only wear Memorial Day weekend, but all summer long. I know we are all waiting for these huge Memorial Day sale however, a lot of stores do offer pre sale for certain items if you ask. I have personally done this numerous times at Bloomingdales during their Friends & Family if I didn’t need the item right away. If you don’t know where to begin when it comes to shopping for next weekend I suggest you all head on over to Gap, H&M or Forever 21. These are great store options that have so many options right now and at great prices. For all of those in New York City I hope that all of you are safe after todays’ horrible accident in Times Square. Always be aware of your surroundings and make sure to pay attention always. Throwback Thursday: Night Out Outfit

Happy Thursday! In the spirit of it being throwback Thursday I thought I’d post some of my favorite shots from my first photo shoot with my sweet puppy Stella. Again if you don’t follow her already please follow her on instagram @HowStellaGotHerWoofBack. I still look at these pictures and can’t believe how small she once was. She really has grown up <3. In New York City right now it is very gross and rainy out, but it still not warm enough yet outside to fully switch my closet over to summer. Yes you heard me right I do switch my closet over from season to season. Most people that live in New York store all of their clothes from season to season. Otherwise it would take up too much valuable closet space. However, there are some pieces that I always keep out just incase there is a random cold night. To me the perfect night out outfit consists of a great pair of booties, jeans and a good simple top. Well right now it also consists of a black leather jacket, but that’s a whole other subject. The top that I am wearing is a lightweight long sleeve shirt that can be worn even when it gets a little warmer out so it is an all season shirt. Being from Florida I get cold very easily even when it’s barely cold out in New York City I always seem to throw on a jacket. I am trying to get better at that because at the end of the night I end up carrying my jacket home with me. If you are still wrestling with what to start putting away these are items that I wouldn’t put away at all. Steals & Deals – Ear Cuffs

Happy Friday! Back in 2013 the biggest trend to come out of the earring game was the ear cuff. Now as I have told you all before my Mom is the queen of finding the hottest trends at a fraction of the cost. She purchased me these beautiful diamond ear cuffs from Graziela Gems and they are even more beautiful in person. They are so comfortable and so easy to wear with pretty much everything that I own. Back then they were on sale due to the impending holiday season, but they now have a special collection on QVC. They are all under $100 and compared to their full retail collection this is a HUGE STEAL! If you are still looking for a great pair of ear cuffs these are the ones you need to snag up immediately. I love the fact that instead of a simple closure with just an earring backing they are a clip closure for pierced ears. This means no more missing earring backs and no losing your earrings while you are out on the town with your friends. I know that I have lost my fair share of backs of earrings in my day. The Classic Belt – Gucci

Happy Monday! This last week I have felt under the weather, but I am so glad to finally start to feel back to my normal self. This past year for my birthday I knew exactly what I wanted and that was the fashion it girl approved Gucci buckle belt. The first time I saw it in the stores it was the larger buckle size and to be perfectly honest I thought it was too big for me. I did not realize that it came in a smaller size until I saw it online on the Gucci website. I was able to track one down in Miami and after adding two holes to it the belt fit perfectly! When purchasing belts I used to in the past by just simple faux leather ones from H&M or from the Gap, but I think now that I am older that I should invest in more high quality belts. My Mom used to purchase my brother and my belts from Gap as kids because for our school uniforms it was required to wear a belt. I personally think she just did that not knowing how much we were going to grow from year to year. If you are going to purchase a belt like this Gucci one I suggest solid colors like black or brown. Its always difficult when it comes to the neutral colors because sometimes a belt may seem to dark of a brown or even too light of a tan that you can’t match it with anything. This is the main reason why I haven’t purchased a brown belt myself. I haven’t found one that matches with everything that I own. I honestly don’t wear a ton of gold, but when it came to this belt I realize that even though I may be wearing majority of silver jewelry the belt worked with my outfit such as the one I am wearing above. Sadly they don’t have my belt online anymore in the small buckle size, but they have a multitude of options to choose from. Hope everyone has a great Monday! Happy Thursday! Back in college the one thing that every girl wanted a Chanel quilted bag, but my mom wasn’t going to send me to college with such an expensive bag that I would potentially ruin on a night out. Instead she found something that had the same look, but more than half the cost. This Rebecca Minkoff quilted affair bag is one of my go to bags on days when it is so gross outside especially in New York City now with all of this rain that we have been having. This specific version is no longer sold in stores anymore, however they do have a smaller version on the Bloomingdales website. I have personally worn my bag during some major snow storms and some pretty terrible rain and it has held up through it all. If you are looking for a great going out bag that has the look of a classic Chanel bag Rebecca Minkoff is the place to go. All of their bags are so classic and are amazing quality. I have truly seen a great change in her designs and work in the past 5 years and I am an avid customer. When I couldn’t find this bag back in college my mom was able to find it thanks to Zappos. If you are having trouble finding any bag that seems to be sold out everywhere online check Zappos website. More than likely they have the bag or at least that is what has happened to me in the past. I paired my bag with a simple pair of black jeans and a chambray top with black loafers for an easy casual going out look. Black Denim

Happy Saturday! I am the girl that during winter I normally live in my leggings, but once it hits a certain temperature no matter how thick the leggings are they will not keep you warm. What’s a girl to do but find a great pair of black jeans! These are another pair that I got from Bloomingdales last month during their amazing jean sale. I always seem to find great pairs during this time because even if you buy one pair that is full price, sometimes if you buy one full price you will either get the second pair discounted or you get BMoney in return. These pair are from 7 For All Mankind and they are absolutely amazing. Some of the jeans that I have purchased over the years I have noticed that even after one wear of them they become so loose that I feel the need to wash them so they shrink a little. It is known that you aren’t suppose to wash your jeans very often because then the jeans will lose its color fast, but also then they wear too quickly over time. These pair are mid-rise ankle skinny and I have had them for over a month and have only washed them once! Also, surprisingly unlike other pairs of dark / black denim that have had the color run onto my clothing, this pair has not. They are so comfortable and soft that to someone that is just looking at you they look like jeans, but feel like a soft pair of leggings. They are not too thick that you feel like you are walking around with firm jeans, but they aren’t too thin that even on the coldest nights in New York City you are still kept warm. I tested it to see if I needed to, once it is snowing outside, if a pair of tights could fit under them comfortably and to my surprise they do! Colored Denim – #50ShadesOfGrey

It’s Saturday night and what’s a girl to wear when it is freezing outside, but jeans? I have been trying to change up my jean wardrobe from the standard denim or black jeans. I have experimented with colored jeans, but when I saw these grey jeans from 7 for all mankind I absolutely fell in love. Now being as short as I am there is always the dreaded time of finding skinny jeans that are cut just right to the point where you don’t have to go to the tailor to get them hemmed. These jeans from 7 for all mankind are the skinny ankle cut and they are a high rise waist and because of them being ankle skinny I don’t need to get them shortened! It is amazing! Sadly, the high rise ankle skinny this season only came in this color because if it came in other colors I personally would have purchased them all. I love the grey of these jeans because they aren’t too dark that they look like a pair of black jeans that just lost its color and they aren’t too light that you feel as if you are wearing them during the wrong time of the year. When you are looking for a great pair of grey denim take a look at the care label. I personally always wash my jeans inside out and then I let them air dry until they are almost completely dry then I put them in the dryer on a low heat for 20 minutes max. This way they aren’t super stiff when you try to put them on. I know some people may think “am I really going to wear grey jeans enough to invest in an expensive pair?” My answer is yes! I honestly didn’t think I would at first, but now they are my go to going out pair. I can pretty much wear them with anything. I have worn them to casual events and even to fancy dinners as well. A great pair of colored jeans styled correctly can go from day to night. Just like how I have it styled here with suede booties and an off the shoulder t-shirt. This is an outfit that I could go out with my friends in and also could even wear to work on a casual Friday. The opportunities are endless. Go out now and buy a pair of grey denim-before you know it all of the sizes will be gone 🙂

Steals & Deals – Off The Shoulder T

Happy Friday everyone! I was traveling yesterday from Miami back to NYC and didn’t have a chance to post, but don’t worry because I have something exciting to share with you all today. For today’s Steals & Deals I want to share with you this amazing off the shoulder tee from Express. I first saw this shirt while reading a post from Who What Wear. They were showing all the models during New York Fashion Week rocking this simple T and I immediately went to express the next day. In the stores if you dig through the racks you will be able to find them, but hurry fast because they have reduced the price of this amazing T even more! Personally I got a size small because I wasn’t sure how much it was going to shrink after the wash. I have washed it already and it barely shrank at all! Remember for tops like these you need to have a great strapless bra especially one without lace detailing. I only say this because I put on my lace strapless bra under this top and you could see the lace detailing through the shirt. Off the shoulder shirts were a big hit this past summer and going into fall there is no reason why you can’t make this a new staple piece in your wardrobe. In college whenever a trend was really hitting its stride I knew that Express would come out with a similar less affordable version and they really hit it out of the ballpark with this one. They also have amazing bodysuit options if you are more into that type of style. If you haven’t gone already go now! Especially at these prices how can you say no? The Black Leather Jacket

Today I want to discuss the elusive black leather biker jacket. We all know that is the one staple piece that almost every single girl in NYC has in her closet. What we don’t realize is what makes a good leather jacket. When picking a leather jacket the first thing you should look for is versatility. This leather jacket from DKNY is great because it has side zipper panels in order to make the jacket a little bit bigger if you are layering more sweaters underneath. It also has a more biker feel with the details on the sleeves. I personally have two black leather jackets. This one and another one that is a little bit longer for when it’s a little colder, but not cold enough for a wool coat. A leather jacket is another item I call an investment piece. My first leather jacket, I purchased in the fall of 2011 and still have it to this day. It is in great condition and actually leather jackets only get better with age and wear, so mine is perfect! I always thought that if a leather jacket got any water on it then it is ruined. That is 100% false. Don’t get me wrong, you do not want to be caught in a rainstorm wearing your leather jacket, but if you get a little bit of water on it then it just makes it look more aged and sometimes, in my opinion, look even better. In the past, H&M has had some great faux leather jackets that almost look real but for under $80. If you aren’t sure you are ready to commit to purchasing a leather jacket I would suggest looking there first and then deciding if you are ready to take the plunge. When I was in college that is exactly what I did so when I purchased my first leather jacket I knew exactly what style I wanted and knew I would wear it all the time.

Ripped Jeans + Tights

Ripped jeans while it is cold out? That used to be a major no-no for me because if it’s cold out you want to stay as warm as possible. However, there is a way to wear ripped jeans in the cold too! This season I have been wearing my ripped 7 for all mankind denim jeans with tights underneath them and it has been life changing! I sometimes would wear tights underneath my jeans in general just to keep me warm, but there are only so many times you can wear jeans out during winter when you just want to wear a great pair of ripped jeans. These 7 for all mankind jeans, I purchased in the fall of 2012 and they still look great! When it comes to jeans I always seem to go back to a few brands and 7 is one of them. They are such great quality that I have even had a pair since I was in high school that I still wear today! Crazy to think that a pair of jeans from High School still fit me, but I kid you not they fit and look great. The tights I am wearing have a little something that many tights I have seen have: they have socks attached to them! Yes you read that correctly, they have socks attached to them and they are the best pair of tights I have ever owned! Depending on how thick you normally wear your socks with your boots you may need to add an additional thin sock when wearing your boots, but for me the sock that is attached to the tights is enough. They come in a multitude of shades and styles and are even available on Amazon! So if you were thinking that you can’t wear those ripped jeans just yet, well…problem solved!
