Fitness Tuesday – The Perfect Workout Companion

February 7, 2017

It’s Fitness Tuesday here on Just Jodi Style and I wanted to share with you something that I can’t work out without. There are the obvious items you should always have when working out. You always need something to drink so you don’t get dehydrated, but we all know that gyms get to us by offering bottled water for a small fee when you enter incase you forgot it. I personally have a dozen S’Well water bottles thanks to their sample sale they had back in November. I don’t go anywhere without one because at every gym they always have a fountain with filtered water and if you are already spending so much money on going to a class the least you could do is bring your own reusable water bottle. They recently did a less expensive collection for Target, but honestly a S’well water bottle after at least a week’s worth of working out pays for itself. The other item that I can’t go to the gym without are my headphones. Even on my way to a workout class I always listen to music to get myself mentally prepared for what I am about to do.  are a given you should always have something to drink when you are working out, but on top of that you should always have your music. When I first moved to New York my brother wouldn’t allow me to wear my solo Beats headphones out in public because at the time they were the item that was stolen the most everywhere. I also wanted headphones that were smaller and that I could talk on the phone with while I was walking once it got cold out. He told me to buy the Bose soundsport inner ear headphones. They come with two different size ear pieces and also a traveling case. I purchased the extended warranty on them from Best Buy and it was worth every single penny. I had a minor issue with them within the first year and they replaced them without a question. Then the next year my dog bit them and because I had a warranty they replaced them yet again! They are honestly the best headphones I have ever owned and recommend them to everyone I know. They now have the wireless Bose headphones which I am eager to try, but I think for now I will stick to the soundsport ones for now. These are also great gifts for Valentine’s day which is just around the corner :-).  I hope everyone is having a great day especially with all of this rain we are having in New York City and staying dry. <3

All Black Outfits Accepted <3

February 6, 2017

Happy Monday! Hope everyone is having a great day so far and recovering from the Super Bowl madness yesterday! I still can’t believe what happened. If you didn’t watch the game spoiler alert the Patriots won. I would like to mention that the Miami Dolphins are still the only team to go an entire season undefeated and that includes winning the Super Bowl that year :-). Just saying.. Anyways recently I have noticed more so than not especially during the winter I stick to my basic outfits. However, I was always curious if people thought that because I was normally wearing all black that there was something wrong with me. I am here to tell you that it is perfectly normal to wear all black. My best friend Tess whenever I ask her what she is wearing she says I am wearing some black on some black on some black you know the usual. I personally think if you are concerned that you are always wearing all black all the time then switch up some of the pieces to be different textures. For example in the image today I am wearing black jeans and then a black top underneath then a black leather jacket. The leather jacket made my look different and changed up me constantly just wearing solid black. I have also worn black suede pants with a black top and no one noticed that I was wearing all black, but they did notice my suede pants. Do you think that it’s acceptable to wear all black all the time? Comment below and let me know what you think. <3

Steals & Deals: The Over The Knee Heeled Boot

February 3, 2017

Happy Friday! For today’s Steals & Deals I want to discuss one of the hottest trends this season…the over the knee boot. We have seen everyone wear them from the Hadid sisters to almost every fashion blogger out there. I was lucky enough to get a pair of the Stuart Weitzman Highland boots in black suede for my birthday, but not everyone wants to spend that much on a pair of shoes. I have found some other options for all of you that give you the same look, but at a fraction of the cost. These boots from Steve Madden almost look identical to mine and are only $129! Even better they also have a pair in two neutral colors for only $99!!!! Snag those babies while you can at that unbeatable price. Nordstrom right now has an amazing selection of over the knee heeled boots under $200. Now just because these shoes are under $200 doesn’t mean you shouldn’t weatherproof them. I have learned that even if you waterproof your shoes the one thing that will destroy them is the salt that everyone puts on the sidewalks to melt the snow. So if you get that on your new boots that are weather proofed just take a towel or napkin and wipe off the salt. If you do that within 12 hours you should be good to go.  If you are still in the market for a pair it is not too late to get yourself a pair. Head on over now before they all disappear.

Splurge Worthy Wedding Clutch

February 2, 2017

Happy Thursday! Hope everyone is gearing up for the Superbowl this Sunday and has done all of the food shopping that they need. February seems to be one of the most popular months to get married. Obviously because of Valentine’s Day, but also because of President’s Day Weekend. In a few weeks I am going to be going to Arizona to watch one of my best friends from college marry the love her life and I am so excited that I will be there. I haven’t been back to Arizona since I graduated college in December 2012 so needless to say I have my list of places I want to hit before I leave. The other day I started to go through my closet to plan out my outfits for the wedding weekend. One of the first purchases I made for myself years ago was this amazing black patent bag from Louis Vuitton. It has card holders in the front of the bag as well as a zipper inside, but it also comes with detachable strap! When it comes to a wedding bag I know I have said this before, but it is 100% worth the splurge. I have worn this bag out with the strap to dinners in New York City and then as a clutch to engagement parties and weddings. It is so versatile and even though there is gold hardware on it in some lightings you can’t even tell so  you can also get away with silver jewelry as well. If you are looking for a classic wedding clutch and aren’t sure what to purchase this is perfect for you. Anything black patent is great because it is a classic look that will never go out of style. Sadly this bag isn’t available online, but they have a similar version available that you all should take a look at. Hope you all have a great day <3

Hump Day Treat- Superbowl Ready

February 1, 2017

Happy February!! With Superbowl being this Sunday I thought that I would share with you a recipe that all of your guests would enjoy. I have added a little twist to the simple potato skins. Now as a kid I never really liked bacon. I know crazy right! However, recently I have discovered my love for Duck Bacon. Yes you read that correctly Duck Bacon. It was in my local Fairway Grocery store and it is delicious. Here is what you need to make these most delicious potato skins.

Ingredients:

4 – 6 Idaho potatoes depending on how many people you are having

1 package of duck bacon

1 chives

1 sour cream

1 package of sharp cheddar cheese ( I purchased kraft that was already shredded)

Directions:

1.Preheat the oven to 400 degrees

2.On a cookie sheet put down some aluminum foil. Pierce your potatoes all over. Line the aluminum foil with baking spray. Place the pierced potatoes on the cookie sheet and put them in the oven for an hour. (They should be able to be pierced with a fork)

3.When the potatoes have about 10 minutes left in the oven cut up the Duck Bacon into small pieces and fry them in a pan until crispy. Turn the heat down so they stay warm.

4.Once potatoes are done remove them and let them cool down for about 10 minutes.

5.Once they are cooled down cut them half lengthwise. Then scoop out the center not so that you see the bottom of the skin just enough so you can fill it with the cheese and bacon. You can use the excess potato insides for mashed potatoes or even gnocchi!

6.Put the sliced potatoes back on the same cookie sheet they just came off of. Cover them with cheese and the bacon. Put the broiler on in the oven and place them inside. I left mine in the oven for about 8 minutes even though the cheese was bubbling.

7.Remove from the oven and if you want cut them in half depending on if you want them into smaller bite sized treats.

ENJOY!!!!!

Fitness Tuesday – Simply Fit Board

January 31, 2017

Happy Fitness Tuesday! Since the shows inception I have been hooked on Shark Tank. One of my teachers from graduate school was an advisor to Daymond John for the show. Fun fact for everyone just because someone agrees to a deal on the show doesn’t mean the deal actually goes through after taping has finished. That is why when you see some of the updates you don’t always see a lot of your favorite deals. Anyways I always am interested with all the different fitness items that come on the show and if that actually do work. I recently purchased the Simply Fit Board which Lori Greiner said was a hero product. I thought if the creatures of this product which are a mother and daughter and if I am not mistaken the mother is in her 70’s could do it then why couldn’t I? Let me just tell you it is harder than it looks. I also didn’t know that there were more things to do on the board than just the simple twist. For the first few days I just did the simple twist for about 20 minutes at a time and honestly I could feel it working. I tried both on my wood floors and on my carpet and it was easier to do it on the carpet. I also tried it wearing sneakers and socks and then no socks. If you can do it with sneakers it is much better for you, but without socks is okay too. If you do it with socks good luck not slipping off the board. I personally ordered mine from Amazon, but they are stocked also in Bed Bath and Beyond across the country. I think that if you do not have the time to go to the gym that this is the product for you. I’m not saying that it will give you six pack abs, but it will help you with the dreaded muffin top that everyone tries to avoid. This is the final Tuesday of January 2017 so let’s make it a good one!

SAG Awards 2017 – My Top 3 Fav Looks From Last Night

January 30, 2017

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend and are having a relaxing Monday so far. Last night award season continued with the SAG Awards and let me tell you there was some hit and misses with the fashion. Some of the looks that didn’t bother me so much, but according to the fashion police they were not great.

Emma Stone once again killed it on the red carpet. Wearing Alexander McQueen she looked like the movie star that she is. At first look I wasn’t sure how I felt about it being sheer with the lace detailing, but upon closer look at the dress it was perfect. Her acceptance speech was a great reunion of Superbad don’t know if anyone else caught that. I can’t wait to see what she wears to the Oscars because I know she is going to look amazing again.

Kerry Washington in my book can do no wrong. Even last year with her crop to while pregnant honestly I said to my mom on the phone that she can make even pregnancy look fabulous. She stunned in this Roberto Cavalli dress and it had me thinking Olivia Pope with the white hat killing it. I know that everyone said it looked too much like a wedding gown, but some of the best looks on red carpets were initially intended to be wedding gowns. I honestly can’t wait for the rest of this season of Scandal not just to see what happens, but also to see all of her fashion.

I am a huge Game of Thrones fan. I personally binged watched the first 3 seasons on my own when I first moved to New York. I will say this to all of you because I wish someone said it to me. DO NOT WATCH THE RED WEDDING ALONE AT NIGHT TIME! Anyways Sophie Turner who plays Sansa and also is rumored to be dating Joe Jonas stunned in a custom Louis Vuitton dress. It reminded of Jennifer Lawrence years ago in her red number during award season. She looked elegant and really stood out from the crowd.

Do you all agree with my top 3 favorite looks from last night? Comment below and let me know who your favorite looks were. Look forward to reading them <3

Steals & Deals – Pridebites Pt.2

January 27, 2017

Happy Friday! For today’s Steals & Deals I wanted to show you something that I have mentioned before, but it’s worth mentioning again. Since getting a dog I can not tell you how hard it has been to find sweaters, beds, blankets and anything you can think of that I truly loved. I have found few things that I have liked from Petco and Petsmart, but there was always something about the items I purchased that just didn’t foot the bill. Pridebites which was actually co created by one of my brothers best friends and was also featured on Sharktank is the place to go. My dog Stella is always decked out in Pridebites gear and she knows that the items are hers. They have everything from dog toys to puffy jackets for your dog this winter. You can also customize everything on their website. I personally have a frisbee dog toy with Stella’s face on it and it is the cutest thing that I have ever purchased not just for her but for myself. If you go to their website now and make a purchase before checking out enter in the code Stellabear for a 20% off discount to your entire purchase. I have suggested this website to over a dozen people now and they all are just as much in love with Pridebites as I am. One person even emailed me saying that her toy poodle who never would wear sweaters in the winter because she hated every single one now refuses to take off her Pridebites sweater when she gets home from her walks. Another happy pup! Don’t forget to use the code Stellabear <3 If you don’t follow already please follow stella on instagram @HowStellaGotHerWoofBack

The Quilted Handbag

January 26, 2017

Happy Thursday! Back in college the one thing that every girl wanted a Chanel quilted bag, but my mom wasn’t going to send me to college with such an expensive bag that I would potentially ruin on a night out. Instead she found something that had the same look, but more than half the cost. This Rebecca Minkoff quilted affair bag is one of my go to bags on days when it is so gross outside especially in New York City now with all of this rain that we have been having. This specific version is no longer sold in stores anymore, however they do have a smaller version on the Bloomingdales website. I have personally worn my bag during some major snow storms and some pretty terrible rain and it has held up through it all. If you are looking for a great going out bag that has the look of a classic Chanel bag Rebecca Minkoff is the place to go. All of their bags are so classic and are amazing quality. I have truly seen a great change in her designs and work in the past 5 years and I am an avid customer. When I couldn’t find this bag back in college my mom was able to find it thanks to Zappos. If you are having trouble finding any bag that seems to be sold out everywhere online check Zappos website. More than likely they have the bag or at least that is what has happened to me in the past. I paired my bag with a simple pair of black jeans and a chambray top with black loafers for an easy casual going out look. You can also pair this bag with great booties and a dress or even heels for a night out on the town. Check out Rebecca Minkoff’s website for some of their amazing bags! <3

Hump Day Treat: Salmon Patties

January 25, 2017

It’s Wednesday and you all know what that means it’s time for a hump day treat recipe. One of my favorite childhood memories of my Grandparent’s is how my Grandma would always make us lunch whenever my brother and I went over to my Grandparent’s apartment. Now since my grandparents kept kosher inside their home there was certain things that we weren’t allowed to eat while we were there because of it. She figured out quickly something that was easy to make for her and something that all the grandchildren would eat. Mac n Cheese with Salmon Patties! They were really salmon burgers but she liked calling them patties for us. So now she would make us the standard kraft macaroni and cheese from the box which we all know is a classic. Today I personally love to make the Cracker Barrel white cheddar mac n cheese. If you haven’t tried it already you need to do it right away! Now for the salmon burgers here is what you will need if you are cooking for yourself:

Ingredients:

1 can of pink boneless skinless salmon

Bread crumbs (I use the Italian ones)

2 eggs

Vegetable oil

Plastic gloves

Directions:

1.Put on the plastic gloves. Open the can of salmon and drain out the liquid. In a mixing bowl place the salmon that you have removed and drained from the can. Using your hands that have gloves on them mix it so it’s in small pieces.

2.Crack two eggs over the salmon. Now mix it all together with your hands so that the egg is all mixed in with the salmon.

3.After you have mixed the egg in pour a little bit of Italian bread crumbs in the bowl. My brother Ira always says more bread crumbs, but you don’t want it to be too much so that the patties are now dry. I always say add a ¼ of a cup at a time. When the salmon has a good consistency where it’s still a little sticky enough to make burgers then you have added enough.

4.In a frying pan heat up the vegetable oil. Once it is heated up place the salmon burgers in the pan. Once you see that the patties are getting brown on one side flip them over so the other side gets golden. Do that about 4 times so each side cooks 3 times on each side.
Hope you all enjoys today’s recipe and are having a great day! <3
