Tuesday Shoesday: Rain Boots

August 15, 2017

Happy Tuesday! Well really happy #tuesdayshoesday! I know that I have posted about my love for Hunter rain boots in the past, but I wanted to bring them back again. I was also inspired since it has been so rainy and yucky out today in NYC. Now I know for most of us we normally only wear our Hunter’s in the winter with the snow, but you can still wear them when its just plain old raining. There are so many options when it comes to rain boots today that there are a few key things that I have learned when purchasing them myself. First off check the bottom of the shoes and see how thick they are. This may sound silly to you, but the amount of times that I have heard of people wearing their rain boots so much outside that it has worn down the soles to the point that there is now a hole in them is crazy. Mind you the person who also wore them wore thick socks like the swelly socks with my Hunter rain boots so they were wearing the right socks for the shoes. Secondly look for practicality. What I mean by that is if you are someone that lives in say Seattle where it rains a lot so you will wear them on most work days and then change shoes at work you don’t want to have a huge pair of rain boots by your desk or under it. That is taking up valuable space that you need. This is when I tell my friends to buy the rain boots that aren’t calf length in height but just a little bit above the ankle. That way your legs are semi protected and your shoes aren’t taking up valuable real estate by your desk. Here are some great retailers that have a great selection of rain boots right now for all of your style needs.

Steals & Deals: Express Bodysuit

August 14, 2017

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend and are gearing up for the week ahead. I still can’t believe that summer is almost over! Personally I am not ready for the cold weather, but I am trying to savor every moment of the summer I can before it’s over. Now I have expressed my love for bodysuits before and I am here to share with you one of my favorite finds for a special Steals & Deals. Now if you are going to wear a bodysuit I believe it shouldn’t be a full bottom. I don’t want to feel like I am wearing a full piece bathing suit as clothes and I know none of you do either. I have always had a love hate relationship with Express throughout the years, but recently I have loved a lot of their pieces. This off the shoulder ruffle thong bodysuit is something that you all need to have in your closets. First off the off the shoulder trend is something that we have been seeing for over a year now and it doesn’t seem to be going away. Secondly this bodysuit can be worn a multitude of ways. It can be worn as a one shoulder top or even as a strapless top! I have tried it and it works! It is available on Express’ website in 5 colors for only $39.90. Now normally when you see bodysuits like this at such a low price they tend to feel cheap and aren’t as comfortable as what you would like. I am here to say that this bodysuit despite it being off the shoulder which requires me to wear a strapless bra is the most comfortable bodysuit. I had to read the label after putting it on because it is so soft that you would think it was made out of 100% cotton. I personally ordered a size small and it fits perfectly! Click here to head on over to Express website to snag one up before they are all gone. Hope you all have a great day and like me are tuning into Bachelor in Paradise tonight!

Tuesday Shoesday – Stuart Weitzman

August 8, 2017

Happy Tuesday! Instead of #FitnessTuesday I have decided for the rest of this month I am going to be focusing on my love for shoes. A few years ago I showed my Mom an image of Kourtney Kardashian wearing these unreal snakeskin gladiator sandals by Stuart Weitzman. I was OBSESSED with them to the point my Mom asked me to stop sending her pictures of everyone on the internet wearing them. She didn’t believe me that they would look good on me for the fact that I am short, but I pointed out that Kourtney Kardashian is as short as I am. Most tall gladiator sandals don’t always fit my leg they either are too short or come above the knee. I tried them on anytime I saw them in the store only to be sure of my size, but also in hopes my Mom would agree that they looked so cute on me. Finally one day my Mom called me about a year after I showed her the initial picture asking me if I still wanted the shoes. I froze and immediately said yes! She found them on Jildor’s website for over 75% off!!! She then asked me for my size which thanks to the many times I tried them on in the store I knew :-). I also tried them on so many times in the store because of the calf part of the shoe. Even though I do work out my legs aren’t as muscular as other people and sometimes this has stopped me from purchasing a pair of shoes. There were other gladiator sandals that Stuart Weitzman came out with that were solid and they did not fit me around my calf muscles. Thankfully these have adjustable straps around the legs so that helps with anyone who may not have the most muscular legs. Sadly these aren’t available anymore on their website, but there a lot of great retailers that have some of their amazing gladiator sandals on sale right now! Check out these sites here to get them before they are all gone!

Bachelorette Finale

August 7, 2017

Happy Monday! Well let’s be real the thing I am most excited about is the Bachelorette Finale tonight on ABC. Now I have been watching all season long like every year participating in Bachelor / Bachelorette leagues, but little did I know that this year I was going to know one of the contestants. Something that I learned from one of my friends who also knows someone that was on the show is that the roses that they hand out are 100% real! I know there has been a ton of discussion about this on all of the gossip sites, but they are real! If you love flowers and want ones that will last more than one week check out The Million Roses from LA. They do a similar process like Venus Et Fleur, but have a larger selection at all price points. Some of my favorite things that I try to have for Bachelor / Bachelorette nights at my home include Babe Rose. Babe Rose is rose in a can! Who knew? I also love the classic White Girl Rose also created by The Fat Jew. I can’t wait to see what happens on tonight’s episode especially the After The Final Rose special. So who do you all want to win? The better question is who do you all want as the next Bachelor? I guess we will all have to wait until tonight to find out for ourselves.

Steals & Deals: Stripped off the Shoulder

August 4, 2017

Happy Friday! This weekend it is a full household in my apartment. I am watching one of my best friends puppies Stanley a cockapoo that is under 6 months old. Stella is getting adjusted to not having all of my attention, but so far so good! Once a month I get emails with additional mark downs from different retailers. The one retailer that I have found the best markdowns recently is Saks Off Fifth. One of the biggest trends of summer that I have seen so many people wear are button down shirts, but not the traditional way we are used to seeing. I found this pink button down off the shoulder top with a front tie by Romeo & Juliet for only $34.99! It is so comfortable and easy to wear despite the fact that I need to wear a strapless bra with it. I love how the sleeves are not the traditional cuffs that you see on button down shirts. I also ordered this top in black and white as well. I personally ordered a size small and I’m glad I did. Otherwise It would be too tight on me that I wouldn’t be able to lift my arms if I took it any smaller.  One thing I will say about Saks Off Fifth is they have a policy for shipping. If your item doesn’t ship within a certain time frame they will cancel your order. Even if the item is still available online they will cancel it. This happened to me with my order of these two tops, but upon calling their customer service they promptly re ordered me the items and found them the same day to ship them to me overnight for FREE!  Saks Off Fifth has recently opened up an actual store in New York City and it is AMAZING!!! If you aren’t that big into online shopping head on over to their store in Midtown right now! They have an amazing selection of low to high end designer items at a fraction of the cost. Hope everyone has had a great week and has a great weekend! I know that I will in puppy town <3

Throwback Thursday: The Denim Jacket

August 3, 2017

Happy #TBT! Everyone always says that in fashion its a cycle and that what’s old is new again. This has always been the case especially this past year. We have seen the resurgence of so many trends that I even used to wear when I was younger. Wow that makes me feel old. One of my favorite trends from middle school was the denim jacket. I still remember the first one my Mom purchased me was a dark denim jacket from Hard Tail. I wore it until it was too short on my arms for me to wear. Even though I tried to convince my parents I could wear it as a quarter sleeve jacket, but they didn’t buy it. While in college my Mom once again found me another great find this Ralph Lauren denim jacket. I totally forgot I even had it until I moved to New York City almost 4 years ago. When looking for a denim jacket I suggest looking at your wardrobe in a whole. I prefer my denim jacket plain without any patches or artwork on it. The amount of times I have thrown on my denim jacket right before I walk out the door recently is through the roof. Even when I am simply going out for a walk with my sweet puppy Stella I sometimes throw it on instead of putting on a long sleeve t-shirt. It’s hard when its early in the morning and its too hot for long sleeves but a little nippy for just a tank top. This is a happy medium!  I know a lot of people have been wearing them super oversized, but for me I prefer mine more fitted. However, if you want the oversized look make sure the arms aren’t too long that you are rolling up the sleeves to the point that it hurts your wrist. If you want a denim jacket with a little more flare you can always purchase your own patches online and put them on a solid denim jacket yourself. It will be most cost effective especially if you aren’t sure how often you are going to wear it. Sadly my denim jacket is no longer available, but if you search retailers such as Zara, GAP and even H&M you will find great ones that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

Humpday Treat – Everything But The Bagel

August 2, 2017

Happy Wednesday! So for the past few months I have season at least a dozen of my friends post, tweet, instagram, snapchat and tell me about this amazing seasoning I need to try. Now I am an avid Trader Joe’s shopper and I am very lucky that there is one conveniently located only two blocks away from my apartment in New York City. Today I finally said I was going to see what all the hype was about and try out this seasoning on my chicken I was planning on cooking for lunch. From everyone that I spoke to and everything that I read online it said that you could basically put this seasoning on anything. I tried it today on a plain piece of chicken breast that I cooked with some coconut oil in a frying pan. I barely put any on the chicken out of fear of over seasoning and I am glad I did. With just a little seasoning on my chicken it was full of flavor and was so delicious that I wanted more after I was all done. Trader Joe’s you really hit this one out of the park! If you haven’t already tried this seasoning you need to right away. It can literally be used on just about anything to add a little something to your meal. Hope everyone is having a great day and for those of us in New York City stay dry! This rain always makes me want to stay in and cuddle up on the couch. <3

Tuesday Shoesday – Birkenstock

August 1, 2017

Happy Tuesday! Can you all believe it is already August 1st? Crazy how quickly the summer has gone by. Sorry that I have been so MIA this past month. I have been traveling and working on ways to make Just Jodi Style better. I am back now and ready to give you all amazing new content. Since last year I  have been looking for a pair of metallic sandals like a pair I had in high school to be my new it summer sandal. I had seen that Birkenstock had made metallic sandals and even a classic all white pair last year, but I could never find my size. I have very thin fit so sometimes even though the shoe may fit length it wont’ fit around the top of my foot. The amount of times that I have been searching for a shoe to finally find it to have it not fit me properly is more than I would like. When I saw these rose gold Birkenstock sandals I immediately tried to find my size. I searched for months and months and because I wasn’t sure what size I needed I was looking for two sizes. I put my name on countless waitlists to then finally find it on Amazon in a size 6.5. Sadly, there was too much room around the top of my foot even on the tightest buckle. Then I was back on the hunt! Finally Zappos emailed me that they had them in a size 6 the only difference was the bottom of the shoes were black instead of white. I honestly preferred the black bottom because with walking around the streets of Manhattan white shoes get dirty pretty quickly.  The size 6 came and they fit PERFECTLY! They are so comfortable and I love the rose gold coloring on them. The last time I owned a pair of Birkenstock’s I was at sleep away camp. The main reason I purchased them back then was to avoid having to put on real shoes for morning line up. Don’t tell me that I was the only one that did that. If you were looking for these sandals like I was head on over to Zappos right now before they are all gone! They have them now with both the black and white bottoms so you can now take your pick. Have a great day <3

Steals & Deals: Alexander Wang Slides

July 7, 2017

Happy FRIYAY! Today’s Steals & Deals is all about the shoe of the summer. One of my favorite slides that I have seen almost every blogger wear are the Alexander Wang – Amelia slides. I have seen them in also a heeled version with open toes, but I think the slides are just perfect for summer. They are super cute and I love the caged detailing on them. However, the price tag for these shoes are a little pricey for me especially since I feel like this style may just be the style of the summer. I have been searching high and low for a less pricey option so I can get my shoe fix without spending too much. My friend Erika found the answer! Forever21 has a similar pair on their website for only $28!!! Now I think that is much better than spending $595 don’t you? The one thing I will tell you before purchasing them is to buy a size down maybe even a size and a half down depending on how wide your feet are. I am normally a 6.5 sometimes a 7 depending on the shoe, but with these shoes I order a 6.5, 6 and even a 5.5. After trying all the shoes on the 5.5 was the winner and fit me the best out of all of them. I have not seen them in any of the Forever21 stores so head on over to their website now and purchase them before they are all gone. They come in both silver and a beige color, but the only problem is if the shoe doesn’t fit you can only return them via the mail and not in store. When I bought them they only came in the beige color and now I am currently purchasing a silver pair for myself.  I just couldn’t help myself. Hope everyone has had a great week and a great weekend! <3

Summer White Top

July 6, 2017

It’s finally Thursday which means one more day until the weekend! Unless some of us took off this entire week due to the holiday. Last summer I was on the hunt for the perfect white top. The problem with a white top especially during summer is even though we all don’t want to admit it, but we sweat. In New York City it gets unbearably hot during the summer and I know that I am not the only one that sometimes takes two showers a day because of the heat. Since it gets so hot its almost impossible to find a white top that doesn’t show that you are sweating through it. I found this top at Bloomingdales on their sale rack with no label just a price tag on it.  Crazy I know that it didn’t have a label but for $25 it was exactly what I was looking for. When looking for a summer white top try to find something that is breathable, but not sheer. This top with its tiered layers and detailing with also the layer of what feels like silk, but I am sure isn’t shows all the amazing details of the top without any sweat marks. I love how it is short enough to look like it is a crop top, but long enough that it covers my entire stomach. When on your hunt for the perfect white top take a picture with the flash on outside the dressing room. I say this because it is a fact that dressing rooms have different lighting and mirrors than what we have at home. Also we have seen it too many times happen to celebrities on red carpets where all the sudden their clothes are now see through. YIKES! If you are like me you don’t mind wearing a strapless bra even during the summer. My other suggestion is to bring or wear a strapless bra when you are out shopping because the last thing you want is to buy a top thinking that it can be worn with a strapless bra and then it doesn’t work once you try it all on at home. Then you will have to go all the way back to the store to return the top or you will just let it sit in your closet forever… If you haven’t already check out some of the major department stores this week. Some of them are still having major sales due to July 4th being on Tuesday. Hope everyone has a great day <3
