Award Season – Golden Globes Favorites

January 9, 2017

Happy Monday Everyone!!! Hope everyone had a great weekend and for those of you living in New York City I hope you all survived the snow storm! There is still so much snow on the ground and my puppy Stella is not happy about it at all. Last night was the start of award season for me that is because even if there were award shows before last night this is the first one that everyone I know watches in the United States. Now I was always told by others that if you are nominated for an award for the show you are attending that designers are more likely to flock to you. Not saying that if you aren’t nominated designers won’t come to you, but if you are then you really have your pick of gowns. I also always believed that if you are nominated for an award for that specific show that means you need to be dressed to perfection. There should be no hair out of place and your outfit should fit you like a glove. Every award show my mom and I no matter where we are during commercial breaks we discuss the outfits that we see and this year like most we agreed on almost every look we loved. Here are my top 4 favorite looks from last night.

Kristen Bell in Jenny Packham. I love that the dress is all over sequins and you can tell that she made sure that this dress wasn’t going anywhere. Fashion tape is a girl’s best friend! I know since I wore a very deep V sequin dress to my best friends wedding that if you are wearing a low cut dress that all you need are a pair of statement earrings. No need to add a necklace on top of it.

Now Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were #couplegoals and even though he was the one nominated for his role as Deadpool she stunned in Atelier Versace. I mean the deep V the sequin pockets the green diamond bracelets I could go on and on about her look. I love how she kept the hair and makeup simple and let the dress do the talking.

Again Versace was all over the red carpet and I must say bravo! Reese Witherspoon stunned in this yellow Versace gown and I can’t stop looking at her. Normally I wouldn’t be a fan of a yellow dress, but each year some celebrity proves me wrong and shows me that yellow in a dress is amazing! With the simple hairstyle and just a statement necklace and the slit in the front she truly looked beautiful.

The true winner of the night was the movie La La Land and Emma Stone truly looked like a star. This Valentino dress is absolutely stunning on her! I love how it is light pink in color and not an off white or a true white. I personally didn’t notice until she was doing red carpet interviews that her dress actually had stars in it. Honestly the girl can do no wrong in my book. Did anyone else notice Andrew Garfield standing up clapping the entire time after they announced she won? #friendlyexs
Who were some of your favorites from the golden globes last night? Comment on today’s post and let me know what you think! Hope everyone has a great Monday and for those of you in New York City stay warm! <3

Steals & Deals – Steve Madden

January 6, 2017

Happy Friday!! Yesterday I spent the day in New Jersey with my best friend Tess and let me tell you that Milburn Deli lives up to all the hype that everyone was telling me. I am still full from my lunch yesterday. For the past few years I have eyed the Stella McCartney faux leather oxford platforms in every store I have been to. They are so cute and classy because they look like a classic oxford shoe, but they have the height like those shoes the Spice Girls used to wear back in the day. We all know we wanted a pair of those for our own. I have looked on every discount site for these shoes in any color way and the lowest that I have seen them even during the holiday time was $600 and I couldn’t bring myself to buy them because I know that I won’t wear them every single day. Luckily I found another option! This year on Thanksgiving I did a little retail therapy on Jildor.com and I thought because I didn’t shop cyber Monday that I wasn’t going to get any rewards, but I was wrong. Just from shopping during Thanksgiving in general on their site I received $50 in credits! I had to use them by this week and I scoured the site for a pair of shoes and stumbled upon these amazing Steve Madden pair. They almost look identical to the Stella McCartney’s the only difference is the toe area is rounded and the heel part is a cork heel vs a wooden heel in the Stella’s. These amazing shoes are only $99 and with my $50 coupon I only spent $49 before taxes. They are so comfortable and I am so glad I found a pair that gives me the same look at the Stella McCartney pair that I have been eyeing, but at a fraction of the cost. Check out their website now for amazing other shoes that are heavily discounted right now! They are honestly one of my favorite sites to shop on for great shoe deals and their customer service is amazing! I hope everyone enjoyed today’s Steals & Deals. For all of you in New York City stay warm with all this snow. <3

Hump Day Treat! Recovery Protein Bowl

January 4, 2017

Happy Wednesday everyone! With it being the first week of 2017 I thought that I would give you all a healthy recipe for those of you that their new year’s resolution was to eat healthier. My friend Brooke who I worked with when I interned at Glamour Magazine is honestly one of my fitness inspirations. She is currently training and going to be running the marathon in London after running the marathon in NYC this year. Yesterday she posted this amazing protein bowl and I had to ask her how to make it. These are a great alternative to those who don’t necessary like having a smoothie or are still looking for a healthy alternative this new year.

Ingredients:

Almond Milk – plain almond milk, but if you want to try vanilla almond milk I did and it tasted great!

Ice

One Large Frozen Banana (peel it before freezing it! I learned that mistake the hard way)

Plant Protein – My friend got hers from Garden of Life

Almond Butter

I did this myself today in a blender and I started with a ¼ of a cup of almond milk and added more as I saw fit and I did the same with the almond butter and plant protein. I personally love protein shakes, but only when they taste more fruity than protein. If you have a nutribullet you can also  make this in there as well. It may be easier if you want to use the container to bring it to work with you on the go. Brooke topped hers off with flaxseed, walnuts and organic shredded coconut. YUM! I personally put on top of mine some of the organic coconut and strawberries.  Hope everyone is having a great day and for those of you in New York City I hope you are all preparing for the snow that we are suppose to get on Friday! <3

Fitness Tuesday – To Stretch Or Not To Stretch?

January 3, 2017

Happy New Year everyone and happy first fitness Tuesday of 2017!! I am finally recovering from this weekend and getting back into the swing of things. I started January 1st with a 90 minute SoulCycle class and when you hear people say it is hard that is an understatement even for me who does spinning at least 4 times a week. When I used to do spinning I would always leave before the stretch part because I would just want to get out of the class and shower. Even when I was younger I would always just do the bare minimum of stretching not until I played JV basketball in High School did I start to take it more seriously. I didn’t want to injure myself because I wasn’t stretching properly, but with spinning didn’t think that I needed to stretch more than I normally did. One thing that I have learned since starting to work out more is that stretching is more important than you think. Even if you don’t really stretch fully before any type of workout after you should always stretch every muscle you have. There are times I would think oh I don’t need to stretch out my arms because I barely did any arm work, but that doesn’t mean you didn’t use your arms in a way you didn’t realize. As I have previously stated a foam roller is great for stretching, but you can use anything in your house. I personally use a towel to stretch out my legs by using wrapping it around my feet and holding either end of the towel and then pointing and flexing my toes in the process. It may sound silly, but think about all the stretches you did in your middle school PE classes and do those today. They are more helpful than you think and they will prevent you from getting stiff muscles and possibly hurting yourself in the long run. Hope everyone had a great weekend and for those of you in New York City are staying dry on the cold rainy day. <3

Steals & Deals – New Year’s Eve Outfit

December 30, 2016

Happy final Friday of 2016!!! I got up today really early to go to the final day of Carnegie Deli in New York City. Only waited a little over an hour to get seated, but it was well worth the wait. After leaving Carnegie my brother and I walked off our meal and if you haven’t found your New  Year’s Eve outfit do not worry. We passed by Zara, H & M, Club Monaco and even Bloomingdales and there are so many good sales going on. A lot of the items may be items that customers returned from the holidays, but their loss is your gain! I personally bought on cyber Monday my outfit from Bloomingdales and when I went in their store they had similar options for a fraction of the price. One of the major trends that everyone wears for New Year’s Eve is anything metallic or sequins. However, this year a major trend that we saw this season is now something that I know I will see everyone wear New Years including myself…VELVET! I personally always buy something for New Year’s Eve that I know I could wear again for a different occasion. If you are going to buy sequins or any metallic stick to the metallics colors of silver, gold, chrome or even rose gold. These are colors you can wear to a cocktail or black tie wedding or even just a fancy party. You never know! If you are shopping velvet I personally got a velvet outfit for New Years that is a burgundy color and I am obsessed with it!!! If you are buying velvet I say the only color I would avoid are lighter velvet colors. The lighter velvet color outfits tend to show lint and dirt faster. I hope everyone is all ready for New Year’s Eve tomorrow I know that Stella and I are. Happy Friday!!!

Hump Day Treat – New Years Appetizers

December 28, 2016

Happy Wednesday! With New Years Eve fast approaching I know that everyone who is throwing parties or having people over before a night on the town are trying to get all the last minute goodies together. One of my favorite appetizers to make is a baked brie. I have featured the recipe here on Just Jodi Style, however it is a bit of a messy clean up especially when you may be leaving to go out right after. One of the best things that I have found to use for any kind of appetizer are pre made filo cups that you can find in any freezer section at your local grocery store. I personally keep one package always on hand in my freezer just in case. Now there are so many things you can do with these filo cups. You can fill them with brie and jelly, spinach, cheddar cheese with bacon or even chocolate! There are so many options that you can do it just all depends what you want to have for your party. I have used this when I don’t want to make the whole baked brie and it is the easiest clean up. My only warning is you don’t realize how hot it is when you bite into it so don’t serve them straight from the oven. Give them at least 5 minutes to cool before serving. Otherwise based upon personal experience you will burn the roof of your mouth. OUCH! If you are making it in the oven I suggest putting it in the oven at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes with any dish. Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday! <3

Fitness Tuesday: Fitness Resolutions

December 27, 2016

Happy Fitness Tuesday everyone! It is the final Tuesday of 2016 and it’s time to finish this year out strong. Now I know everyone makes and breaks their new year’s resolutions, but this year I am also making a fitness resolution. Over the past 6 ½ months I have committed myself to working out more and having a healthier diet. I have noticed a transformation not only in my body, but in how I feel in my everyday life. Khloe Kardashian had it right when she said her new body isn’t a revenge body. She said it was a reset body in order to reset her body to a better place than it was before. Numbers on a scale don’t mean anything as we have also seen in so many articles you can be the same weight, but your body can look totally different. All that matters is how you feel about yourself and how you feel while wearing your clothes. In 2017 my fitness resolution is to continue to hit the gym as I have been at like 5 – 6 days a week. If I need to have more of a rest and only do 4 days one week that is okay too! You should rest and allow your body to recover after intense work outs. Part of my fitness resolution I want to continue to cook at least 2 out of my 3 meals a day at home. I know that I eat better when I cook at home because I know what is going into my food and I can better portion out my meals. If you are trying to start 2017 with being better about your fitness my biggest suggestion for all of you is to start out slow. I used to work out 6 days a week my final semester in college and I lost that once I started graduate school. This past summer when I wanted to get back into better shape and needed something to do during the day I took it slow. I started with 3 classes a week at different places and found what worked best for me not only for my body, but for my schedule. I know in 2017 I will switch up my workouts a bit because you don’t want to continue to do the same thing every week because then you won’t see the results you are seeking. Remember it doesn’t matter what everyone in the class is doing or what others at the gym are doing it matters what works for you and your body. Hope everyone has a great final Tuesday of 2016 and look forward to Fitness Tuesday in 2017!

Steals & Deals – Faux Suede Bodysuit

December 23, 2016

Happy Friday!!! Today is the last Friday before Christmas and Channukah and I hope everyone has found their perfect gifts for the special people in their lives. If you are still looking for a great outfit to wear for the upcoming holiday parties and for New Years Eve look no further than this Steals & Deals. As you all already can guess from previous posts I love bodysuits. They are so easy to wear and just make an outfit simple and easy. I found this amazing faux suede bodysuit from Charlotte Russe and it is only $15!!! They used to have it in this light purple grey color like the one I am wearing, but now they only have it in a burgundy color. I am very tempted to buy it in this color as well because it just fits so well! The burgundy is also a great color for holiday time because it isn’t a true red, but still festive. This bodysuit is great to pair with a pair of mid rise or high waisted jeans with or without a belt or you can even pair it with a skirt. I hate having to tuck in a shirt when I wear pants, shorts or a skirt because it always seems to bunch up around my waist and just not lay correctly. This bodysuit fits like a glove! If you are concerned about how low cut it is and not revealing too much my suggestion is to use fashion tape. When I wore this out the first time I used fashion tape. Since the straps aren’t adjustable and I did not have time to go and get it altered I used fashion tape by the chest area and it worked perfectly! The top did not move out of place the entire evening that I wore it. Most pharmacy in the beauty section carry fashion tape, but if you can’t find it they also have it on Amazon Prime. Pair it with a simple necklace like the one I have on and you are all set. Hope everyone who is traveling this holiday weekend travels safe and gets everything that they want and more. <3

The Fringe Bootie

December 22, 2016

Happy Thursday!!! Hope everyone is all ready for the holidays this weekend and if not do not head to a mall! I went to one this morning just to go to SoulCycle and it was a ZOO! If you have to do any last minute shopping my suggestion is to do it online. Last year I found these amazing fringe suede booties from Kate Spade New York and since suede is one of the biggest winter trends this year I have been wearing them non stop. They are so comfortable and easy to wear that I wanted to buy it in other colors. Since this shoe is a year old I was curious to see if they even still made it at all. To my luck Saks Off Fifth has it on their website in Tan- Gold, Cognac, Grey and Maroon for only $71.98!!!! I know I normally post Steals & Deals on Friday’s, but this deal was just too good not to post today. They run true to size, but if you like to wear a thick sock during the winter then buy a size up. I personally bought a 6.5 and it still fits with my winter sock, but I know that some people wear thicker socks than I do for the winter so take that into consideration. I also love that the bottom of the shoes are rubber because even when it was snowing the other day in New York City I was able to wear these outside without the fear of tripping and falling. I did weather proof them before wearing them as I do all my shoes I wear during the winter so don’t forget to do that as well prior to wear. Check out Saks Off Fifth website now for some great items that are at a fraction of the price.

Hump Day Treat – The French Apple Tart

December 21, 2016

Happy Wednesday! Today is my Mom’s birthday and in honor of that I wanted to share with you one of her recipes that she recently made this past Thanksgiving. Now my Mom and I both love sweets, but when it comes to the holidays my Mom is the master at dessert. I have always loved apple pie, but no one other myself would eat it. So this past Thanksgiving my Mom made a thin french apple tart and when I tell you that it looked like a work of art I am not joking. It was so thin and delicious that it didn’t even feel like you were eating anything. I honestly now prefer this than an apple pie. It was that good! Here is the recipe for this amazing dish.

Ingredients:

½ (15 ounce ) package refrigerated pie dough ( pillsbury has these)

¼ cup sugar

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 pounds Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (Try to make them as thin as possible)

2 ½ tablespoons honey

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

1.Preheat oven to 425 degrees fahrenheit

2.Place dough on a lightly floured surface

3.Roll into a 12 inch circle and place on a 12 – inch pizza pan

4.Combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle 1 tablespoon of the sugar mixture over the dough

5.Arrange apple slices spokelike on top of the dough. Do this by working from outside edge of the dough to the center

6.Sprinkle app over the remaining apple slices that are now on the dough the remaining sugar mixture

7.Place in the oven for 30 minutes

8.Right before  you are about to take the apple tart out of the oven combine the honey and vanilla in a microwave safe bowl

9.Microwave on high for 40 seconds

10.Take the tart out of the oven. While the tart is still warm brush honey mixture over it.

11.Serve this dessert warm and if you like with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. ENJOY!

Hope you all enjoy my mom’s recipe on her birthday <3 Love you mom!
